Powers: Dr. Ecks is a sub-par fighter and athlete; his greatest weapon is his energy-duplicate, known as Double X, an entity living in a symbiotic relationship with Ecks. Double X shares Ecks’ consciousness but can act independently. Double X can fly, generate devastating bolts of power, and is superhumanly strong. Double X needs repeated infusions of electric power to sustain his existence, and if his power level fades he is forced to return to his dormant state in Ecks’ body.

History: (Detective Comics #261)-Dr. Simon Ecks was an introverted and lonely research scientist who invented a machine that could amplify the energy-aura every human possesses until it can function separately from the human body. Ecks used his invention to create Double X, his own energy-duplicate, but the twisted Double X dominated his mind and the two went on a crime spree. Batman II and Robin defeated Dr. Ecks and seemingly destroyed Double X by smashing the machine that created him. Dr. Ecks was then committed to Arkham Asylum, his mind permanently ravaged by Double X.

Dr. Ecks escaped and used a machine he had hidden from the authorities to recreate Double X. Batman again defeated him, this time by creating a Double Batman energy-duplicate. The last of Ecks’ machines were then dismantled.

(World’s Finest Comics #276)-Dr. Ecks finally realized that Double X was never truly destroyed, but was actually hiding inside his body. He then stuck his finger in an electrical socket in his cell to reawaken Double X. This time it took the combined efforts of Batman and Superman II to bring him down.

(Brave and the Bold #194)-Dr. Double X teamed up with the Rainbow Raider but was defeated by the team of Batman and Flash II.

(Titans II #17) - San Francisco; Double X got booked on a panel at the Warlock World sci-fi and fantasy con, alongside professional wrestler Professor Smashing and Titan Beast Boy. Beast Boy was annoyed with his company, especially when he tried to make a few dollars selling egg salad sandwiches to Beast Boy and Smashing, telling them they dare not brave the convention lunch line. Double X presented Deathstroke’s mask, and offered to put it on and pose with fan boys in exchange for a fee. Beast Boiy found his antics in poor taste, considering the death and heartbreak Deathstroke had visited on his teammates. X scoffed at him, so he freaked out, ripped up the mask, and left the convention.
