Powers: Dr. Light could manipulate light in any way she chose, from creating simple illumination to projecting devastating bolts of energy. She could fly at superhuman speed, although she was subject to windburn. Dr. Light's powers were derived from solar-energy, so she must be in proximity of a natural light source to use her powers.
History: (Crisis on Infinite Earths #4)-Dr. Hoshi was a top scientist in Japan studying uses for solar power. She was called away from her work to study the Crisis, and while observing the red sun Vega was struck by a burst of light-energy by the Monitor. She found herself possessed with incredible powers, and took the identity of Dr. Light to defend Japan against the Anti-Monitor and his Shadow Demons.
(Justice League #1-4) - After the Crisis Dr. Light returned to her duties as a scientist and a mother. Maxwell Lord convinced her to join his newly formed Justice League, and she made her debut when terrorists attacked the U.N. Her next mission with the team was preventing a nuclear plant meltdown in the Soviet Union. Dr. Light discovered that Lord recruited her without authority, and she felt he was manipulative, so she decided to quit the team.
Dr. Light's expertise on meta-humans landed her a job at the Japan embassy of Justice League International. She even joined the JLI on missions from time to time.
(Superman: The Man of Steel #20, Superman II #76) - Metropolis; Dr. Light was among the number of heroes who attended Superman's funeral.
(Showcase '93 #10, 11) - Kobra's henchwoman Gennifer Devereaux told Dr. Light that mercenaries Peacemaker and Deathstroke were trying to steal the secrets of her company Cortex International, and asked for her aid, promising that Cortex was important to the Japanese economy. Light was suspicious, but Gennifer soon brainwashed her using Kobra's radioactive television sets, and she became loyal to Kobra. When Peacemaker, Deathstroke, and their ally Katana attacked Kobra, she combated and defeated them. Kobra demanded that she kill them, but her moral code helped her shake off the brainwashing. The heroes defeated Kobra and blew up his headquarters, but Kobra escaped in a sub.
(Final Night #1, 4) - Superman organized a summit of superheroes, including Dr. Light, to listen to an alien named Dusk. She'd seen the Sun-Eater snuff out the sun of countless planets, and she was there to warn the heroes that the Sun-Eater was headed towards Earth. The heroes discussed different ways to deal with the menace. The eater engulfed the sun, freezing Earth, but Parallax sacrificed his life to dispel the Sun-Eater and reignite the sun.
(Justice Leagues: Justice League of Aliens #1) - When the Advance Man made the world forgot that the JLA ever existed the individual members still had a vague memory of the team and formed their own Justice Leagues. Dr. Light was recruited to be in Green Lantern IV’s Justice League of Air. The League of Air aided Martian Manhunter’s Justice League of Aliens quell an outbreak of human mutation in California that was caused by the Advance Man. The Justice League of Air disbanded following the reformation of the Justice League of America.
(JLA: Our Worlds at War #1) - On President Luthor's request Light and the Outsiders went to South Pole, Antarctica to battle an Imperiex Probe that had landed on Earth to hollow out the planet, but the battle went badly for the heroes.
(Green Arrow III #54, 55) - Hoshi accepted the promotion from vice-president to president of R&D at Kord Tech, a position she refused until Blue Beetle was killed. The Society blew up Green Arrow’s home, and when he went looking for Dr. Light with Black Lightning the Society set a trap. Light brutally attacked the Hoshi, absorbing her starlight energy, doubling his own power and leaving her powerless. She was sent to the hospital where Arrow and Lightning visited her, and they were ambushed by Mirror Master and Killer Frost of the Society. Arrow and Lightning defeated the villains but learned that they were only a distraction, put in place so Dr. Light could target Arrow’s family.
(52 / WWIII Part Four: United We Stand #1) <Week 50, Day 7> Black Adam arrived in China, and prepared to destroy the entire country. He defeated China's superhero team the Great Ten before China allowed Dr, Light and the American superhero community to square off against him. Black Adam was a god with nothing left to lose, and each punch he threw was intended to kill. His savagy was winning the day until Martian Manhunter reappeared and flooded his brain with his own loss, the death of the entire Martian species. Black Adam was distracted long enough for Captain Marvel to hurl a Shazam bolt at him. Theo Adam was powerless, and left with amnesia. He staggere away unnoticed from the end of WWIII.
