History: (Secret Origins vol. 2 #27)-Nommo was wizard-king of the African kingdom Kor some 7,00 years ago. His sacred duty was the protection of the Flame of Life, a source of magic which cured the ills of his people. The sorcerer Felix Faust coveted the Flame for himself, and he attempted to kill Nommo and steal the Flame. Nommo was forced to absorb the Flame into his own body and used its' power to banish Faust to another dimension. Nommo depleted most of the Flame's energy in defeating Faust, but he now found himself to be immortal. He craved the company of magic-users, so he nurtured a race of magicians known as the Homo Magi by giving them Stones of Life, talismans that would ensue their prosperity. In present times the first human/magi hybrid was born, a girl named Zatanna, and Nommo hoped she would one day become his mate. Nommo took the identity of Dr. Mist and established the European superteam known as the Global Guardians, gaining international fame. As Zatanna grew he realized she was a much more powerful magician than he, and he abandoned his plan to woo her, choosing to stay with the Guardians instead. He finally met Zatanna when she aided him in defeating a returned Felix Faust. She realized he was in love with her, but Dr. mist vanished before she could react.
