History: (Mortal Kombat X #19 (fb)) - Shao Kahn, more interested in conquering new lands than ruling his subjects, invaded the Arnyek Islands to subjugate the insectoid Kyttin with the help of Reiko and Goro. Kyttin D'Vorah refused to run, instead pledging her service but secretly planning to strike out when the time was right. Quan Chin's manipulations led to the death of Shao Kahn, and Mileena took control. Kotal Kahn was joined in his uprising against Mileena by Reptile and D'Vorah, and deposed the empress.
(Mortal Kombat X #4, 5) - War continued to rage in Outworld as Mileena tried to regain her throne. Mileena had an alliance in Earthrealm with the Red Dragon organization, so Khan and his companions D'Vorah and Erron Black traveled to Earthrealm to stop her. They were captured by Special Forces, and interrogated by Sonya Blade. When he promised Earthrealm would suffer the same fate as Outworld Sonya said she didn't trust him, and was attacked by D'Vorah, who she fended off. Kahn broke his bonds and said hey had to work together to save Earthrealm. Raiden appeared, breaking up the fight, Kotal and his allies returned to Outworld, and Raiden told Sonya they needed to find Cassie Cage, whose role would be instrumental in coming events he saw in a vision. Black Dragons had kidnapped her and taken her to Outworld. Sonya vowed to track her down with Special Forces.
(Mortal Kombat X #6-9) - Kotal Kahn spoke to his horde, including D'Vorah and Black, recounting his rise to power as emperor. He was pleased that Mileena and her forces had been driven underground, but told his troops they had to completely eradicate her and her allies. Kotal sent his father and a regiment of troops to find Goro and Mileena. K'etz told his son he'd bring them back in chains, and let Kahn eat their hearts in front of his adoring public. Kotal said he had no time for showmanship, and giving his father Shao Kahn's Wrath Hammer, told him to kill them quickly. Mileena's advisor Reiko leaked their location in the Golden Desert to give the Kotal a false sense of easy victory. Reiko was allied with the Red Dragon clan, and used Mavado's cloaking tech to dispatch Kotal's warriors. Goro fought K'etz in one on one combat, and snatched the Wrath Hammer form him, using it to shatter his skull. Kotal felt his father's death, and invoked the blood code to make himself a blood god. He now had the power to personally end Goro's life. Word got to Reiko and Mileena that Kotal was riding to confront Goro, and Reiko, having learned that Goro planned to betray Mileena if she reclaimed her throne, promised her he'd kill the victor of the battle. Goro had Rain blot out the sky to exploit Kotal's weakness towards darkness, but Kotal used his power to make the sun come through and send down a ray of light, burning Rain to a crisp. Kotal fought through Mileena's soldiers, killing them, and engaged Goro in combat. Goro bragged about living to conquer, but Kotal laid him low by chopping off his four arms. Goro begged Kotal to kill him, but Kotal preferred to see him suffer, and sent him back to Kuatan in disgrace. Kotal's backups Reptile, D'Vorah, Torr and Ferra arrived to mop up Mileena's troops, but Mileena and Reiko escaped in the confusion. Kotal was weakened by his use of blood magic, and Sonya Blade took advantage, shooting him and demanding to know where her daughter Cassie was. Kotal promised that, as someone who lost his family, he would never kidnap someone's children. Evidence pointed to Erron Black, who was the intermediary between Kotal Kahn and the Black Dragon, and Kotal Kahn agreed to take care of business.
(Mortal Kombat X #12, 13) - They found Erron Black badly wounded after a confrontation with the Red Dragon clan. They'd taken the women to Shang Tsung's island to meet with Reiko and Havik, who made sure Erron was alive to tell Johnny and Sonya they were invited. Cage and Sonya turned Erron Black over to Kotal, and he told Erron he was lucky he hadn't killed him already for nearly starting a war with Earthrealm, ordering him to the dungeons. Kotal told Cage and Sonya he would ensure them safe passage to Shang Tsung's island, but first he had to assemble his troops, because Goro's father King Gorbak had sworn vengeance for Kotal mutilating his son, and had sent a horde of Shokan against Kotal.
(Mortal Kombat X #14, 15, 17-19) - Kotal, Cage and Sonya made battle plans for defending the city. Kotal admitted he did not know the size of the Shokan army, but if the odds were overwhelming he would challenge their champion to Kombat. D'vorah spotted their army approaching, and although their numbers were few they marched with the Oni Warlords. Kotal sent D'Vorah, Ferra and Torr out as diplomats to meet with Kintaro, offering to pay reparations for crippling Goro. Kintaro showed them no respect, and demanded their absolute surrender. D'Vorah replied that Kotal would never submit, so the Shokan attacked the city walls. Sonya and Johnny Cage engaged in combat with the Shokan, and the Special Forces suffered heavy losses. Kotal could not stay on the backlines, and when D'vorah, Ferra and Torr came to see him they found he'd bled himself using blood magik and went to the front lines. After hours of bloody warfare Kotal Kahn confronted King Gorbak, killing him by exploding his head. The Shokan retreated, but Kotal knew they'd be back. Kotal told D'vorah to accompany Cage and Sonya to Shang Tsung's island so he could fulfill his debt. He found his dagger missing, so he could no longer call on blood magik in his battle with the Shokan. The dagger was stolen by Skarlet, one of Reiko's servants. In the midst of his destroyed city Kotal vowed vengeance, even if it cost him his life. His retinue tried to convince him not to be foolhardy, with Ferra, Torr and Reptile reminding him that they owed him their lives, and D'Vorah saying he was the only leader she ever respected. Kotal was deaf to their pleas, but before the discussion was finished Kano arrived with his Black Dragons, claiming to be their salvation.
(Mortal Kombat X #20, 21) - Kano agreed to ally himself with Kotal in exchange for becoming his arms dealer, and Kotal agreed. Kintaro, the Shokan and the Oni Warlords led another raid on Z'unkahrah, but were halted by Kotal and his new allies. Tremor unleashed an earthquake on the Shokan, and Kano hit them with an atomic weapon, decimating the forces. The Shokan refused to surrender, so Kotal ordered his forces to kill them all. Kintaro said he would not yield, but asked for an honorable death. Kotal spared him, telling him he never warred with the Shokan before Goro threw his lot with Mileena, and would welcome them as allies in war against her. Kintaro accepted, and both sides cheered. The Black Dragon demanded their payment, and Kotal told Kano he had repaid a debt for almost causing war between Earthrealm and Outworld when he kidnapped Cassie Cage. Kano threatened to take the sacred portalstone as his payment, and the offended Kotal struck him down, ordering his retinue to send the Black Dragon to the dungeon. Kotal told Sonya and Johnny he'd hand Kano over to them for justice on Earthrealm after they rescued Cassie together.
(Mortal Kombat X #23, 24) - Kotal and his crew arrived on Shang Tsung's island. Reiko confronted them, presenting Cassie and Jacqui, who were under the control of his blood code.
