Powers: Dynamo Kid wore a hyper-battery that sent out beams that could explode pre-planted bombs. The battery put on a harmless display of electricity, making it appear as if Dynamo Kid could destroy targets with lightning blasts.

History: (Adventure Comics I #305) - When Lightning Lad perished during a mission the Legion of Super-Heroes held an open audition for a new member to fill the vacancy on the team. Dynamo Kid was a reporter who rigged up a device that made it appear as though he could duplicate Lightning Lad’s powers. He hoped to get picked and write a story about being a Legionnaire for a week, but the Legion easily saw through his ruse, and he was rejected.
