History: (Swamp Thing IV #16-18) - Mantosan Genomics Corporation came in contact with a dimension that was home to sentient plant life, including the Seed Gatherer and the Eco-Sorcerers. MGS wanted to complete a hostile takeover of nature itself, and planned on using the Earth's plant life to fuel their machines. The Seed Gatherer thought their vision was a utopia since he despised how chaotic and insane Earth appeared to him. He enlisted Dr. Merill to cultivate the mitrate-amalgamate manifestation, toxins from the Gulf of Mexico that the Gatherer had given the spark on consciousness. The Green was the heart of the plant world, so an army of Eco-Sorcerers created machine and plant avatars to invade it. Swamp Thing, an elemental that protected the Green, sensed the invasion, and after overgrowing the nitrate-amalgamate manifestation with algae he opened up a portal to the world of the Eco-Sorcerers. The Eco-Sorcerers trapped Swamp Thing in machinery that pumped him full of toxins, destroying his body as fast as he could regenerate it, while the Gatherer tried to bend him to his will and take full control of the Green. Swamp Thing told the Gatherer he was killing him, so he reduced the amount of toxins flooding Swamp Thing's body, allowing Swamp Thing to break free. After a hard look at the moral and ethical choices Swamp Thing killed the Gatherer and the Eco-Sorcerers so they could no longer damage the Green. With his dying breathe the Gatherer threatened Swamp Thing, saying the Eco-Sorcerers were legion, and other guilds of them would hunt him down.
