History: (Enigma #1 (fb), 5 (fb), 7 (fb)) - Collins was born on a dilapidated farm in Arizona. He was a mutant with the ability to manipulate living tissue, and as an infant he inadvertently turned his father Jimmy into a monstrosity. His mother Ellen tossed him down the farm's well, but after screaming himself hoarse he used his telepathy to demand food from her, so she began tossing lizards down the well. In madness Ellen took a shotgun and shot her husband until his deformed face was obliterated, and she was taken to an insane asylum.
(Enigma #5-8) - After years in the asylum Ellen felt her body change into a monstrous form, and ripped out of her straight-jacket. Her son was using his powers to recreate the 1970s superhero comic Enigma with himself as the hero, and villains crafted from normal people. Flexing his abilities caused latent powers within Ellen to manifest. With a burning hatred for her son she made her bloody way to Pacific City, where he was masquerading as the old comic book hero the Enigma. She nearly killed Enigma before fleeing, and Enigma's lover Michael Smith nursed him back to health while he told him more of his story. Ellen confronted Titus Bird, the comic creator that created the superhero her son was patterning himself on, and told him she wanted to see her son again. Enigma knew his mother wanted to destroy him because of his lack of humanity, and he forged a bond with television repairman Michael Smith to gain a perspective on humanity. Titus, Michael, and Enigma met Enigma's mother one last time, but the outcome of there meeting was unknown.
