History(Marshal Law (Epic) #1) - Doctor Shocc spearheaded the S.H.O.C.C. (Super Hero Operational Command and Control) program, giving superpowers to army recruits dispatched to The Zone. The war was long and bloody, and ended in a stalemate, with the S.H.O.C.C. troops returning home suffering from severe PTSD. Shocc’s protege was William Hood, an eccentric man who refused to take off the supervillain costume Shocc once presented to him. Shoc retired and Hood, now nicknamed Father Hood took over the program. The Public Spirit returned from his trip to the stars and Hood fielded questions at a press conference.

(Marshal Law (Epic) #2) - Public Spirit held a press conference at the Superdrome, an amusement park that showed off S.H.O.C.C.’s creations, to celebrate his achievement of reaching the stars. Doctor Shocc gave a speech showing off the tremendous powers of the various superheroes of the Superdrome, and Father Hood watched over Spirit’s appearance. The Sleepman had murdered several women dressed as Celeste, and hero hunter Marshal Law suspected the Public Spirit, although he knew he wasn’t objective because he had a pathological hatred of superheroes and hated the Spirit most of all. He found files from S.H.O.C.C. that suggested Public Spirit killed his fiancée Virago because she was pregnant, and a man with children would be disqualified from the mission to the stars. Law accused Spirit of Virago’s murder and said he suspected him of being the Sleepman before Father Hood had his S.H.O.C.C. troops drag Law to a back room. He told Law he was undermining his work, with the mission to the stars heralding a great leap forward for all mankind. Law defeated the troops in a brutal fight, and Law grabbed Hood, telling him he was going to make sure the truth came out because he cared about his country.
