Base of Operations: Gotham City

First Appearance: Detective Comics #184 (June, 1952)

History:  Garfield Lynns abandoned his profession as a lighting expert to embark on a career in crime. He created the illusion of a fire on a Gotham theatre stage, and eluded Batman and Robin. Batman mistook a firefly for Garfield's cigarette, which gave him the chance to escape. Inspired by the incident and his love of light he took the costumed identity of Firefly.

(JLA #115, 116) - Firefly stole diamonds, but was beaten up by Catwoman, who took the diamonds for herself. Batman arrived on the scene, and forced Catwoman to handover her ill-gotten goods. Former members of the Secret Society of Supoer-Villains chose this moment to engage Batman, blaming him for the JLA’s manipulation of their minds, and Firefly was forgotten in the firefight.

(Villains United #3) - Firefly joined “Lex Luthor’s” Society. Firefly was among the Society members assigned to guard the Secret Six while the Crime Doctor tortured them for information about their leader Mockingbird. The Secret Six escaped and defeated Firefly and his compatriots, only leaving them alive so they could deliver a message to the leaders of the Society that their days were numbered.

(Villains United: Infinite Crisis Special #1) - The Society made plans for a worldwide prison break to free every incarcerated supervillain, and one of their targets was Blackgate. Firefly was one of the released inmates, and together with the other freed villains they managed to get past a group of superheroes sent by Oracle to try and quell the breakout.

(Titans II #28-30) - Deathstroke’s Titans came to Arkham to liberate inmate Allegra Garcia on behalf of a client, and bribed a guard for the run of the asylum. After they double-crossed him he flipped a switch that released all the inmates. Firefly and his fellow inmates were looking forward to freedom, and attacked the Titans, not wanting them to stand in their way. Firefly gave in to his compulsive behavior, and tried to burn the asylum down while singing the Jimmy Hendrix song “ Fire.” Batman responded to the breakout, and Deathstroke had Allegra use her electromagnetic powers to disable the Arkham inmates security collars. Deathstroke told them they were free to play with Batman, and they allowed the Titans and Allegra to leave.

Firefly received a profile in Who’s Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe #8.

Firefly's pre and post-Crisis origins are very different. I intend to expand on that when I have more source material.
