History: (New Gods I #9, 10) - Forager was a New God trained as one of the Bugs, a race born during bacteriological warfare during past wars between New Genesis and Apokolips. Forager became an able leader, and led his people on raids of New Genesis food stores that held energy loaves. There were always casualties, but Forager managed to survive the New Gods attacks, and was granted time alone with the spoils for his work. He met with Prime-One, who, along with Queen-Widow, ruled the Bugs. Prime One was interested in Forager because he had concepts of brotherhood and loyalty unknown to the Bugs, and sought answers for everything he experienced. He wanted to forge a peace with the New Gods, and Prime One liked the way he thought, but knew the Gods would have to overcome their fear and disdain of the Bugs. An armored color species attacked Forager’s colony, and they were saved by Darkseid’s Bug minion Mantis, who wanted them to fight for Darkseid and destroy the gods of New Genesis. The Queen-Widow accepted Mantis and prepared to sacrifice the Prime One. Forager fought to save him, but he told Forager his death was ritual, but warned him that Darkseid would use the Bugs as slaves, and they would not be equal to his New Gods. He revealed that Forager was of the gods, and told him to seek out Orion, who would be sympathetic. Forager, reeling from the revelation, had a skirmish with Mantis’ forces before taking a Boom Tube to Earth to find Orion. Bug stole food from a restaurant, and found Earthlings as protective as their food sources as the Gods were. He was brought into custody, where he met Orion and Lightray, and warned them of Mantis’ plans to invade Earth using the Bugs as his pawns. Orion fought Mantis’ Bug horde fiercely, and Lightray convinced Sonic Research and Development to lend him a transmitter, which he used to focus sound and light to drive off the Bugs, and send them scurrying back to New Genesis.

(New Gods III #1, 2) - Orion had respect for the fallen Forager as a warrior, but still despised the Bugs. To give Orion another lesson in humility Highfather entrusted the body of Forager to him and told him to return his remains to the Bugs. Highfather wanted him to see that everyone who hated Darkseid was on the same side. Forager was laid to rest with a grand funeral, and Orion began peace-talks with the Bugs to honor his friend’s memory.
