Base of Operations: Metropolis

First Appearance: Superman I #248 (February, 1972)

Powers: The Galactic Golem was composed of galactic energy, which let him draw on the powers of the stars themselves. The Golem possessed incalculable superhuman strength and durability, but needed regular bursts of interstellar energy to maintain his strength and survive.

History: Lex Luthor gathered galactic material from the spot of the big bang itself, and used his cosmic cannon to bombard the material with interstellar radiation, giving it life and the semblance of a man. The Galactic Golem needed regular doses of interstellar radiation to live, so Luthor quickly taught him to destroy targets he'd placed the radiation inside. Luthor shot Superman with the cannon, and hoped the Golem would destroy his arch-nemesis. Superman held his own against the Golem, and in his frustration the Golem turned on Luthor. Luthor was forced to send the Golem on an endless voyage through space to save his own life.
