History: (Flash Secret Files #3, Flash: Iron Heights (fb, BTS)) - Steelworker Tony Woodward viciously assaulted a female coworker, and his actions resulted in a riot. The rest of his coworkers tossed him into a vat of molten steel. The steel was actually scrap from a series of S.T.A.R. Labs experiments, and it transformed Tony into Girder, a man made of organic steel. Girder was sentenced to a term of 45 years at Iron Heights after committing robbery and murder.

(Flash: Iron Heights) - When Flash III and Pied Piper investigated an outbreak of the frenzy virus at Iron Heights Girder escaped his cell and battled the duo. Flash defeated him, but he had to find Murmur to create a vaccine for the frenzy virus, so he left Girder unattended. Blacksmith and her Rogues helped Girder escape the Heights and recruited him for the Rogues.

(Flash Secret Files #3) - Girder and the Rogues sent Murmur to slaughter his enemies at radio stations KKEY and KKSS, using this as a cover to have Mirror Master set up mirror devices that would be activated by the radio stations. The mirrors would, when the time was right, set up a mirror around Keystone City that would cut it off from the outside world.

(JSA #35-37) - The Ultra-Humanite used Johnny Thunder’s Thunderbolt to conquer the world, and imprisoned Girder and virtually every superhuman on Earth in stasis tubes, only reviving them when he needed mind-controlled slaves to serve in his personal guard the Thunderfront. Girder served as a member of the Thunderfront when they attacked the JSA, the only heroes not under the Humanite’s control. The JSA used a device that disrupted the braincaps Humanite used to control the Thunderfront, leaving them unconscious but freed from Humanite’s mental domination. The JSA later defeated the Humanite.

(Flash II #183) - Girder and the Rogues supervised one of Blacksmith’s Network sales of black-market merchandise.

(Flash II #184-188) - Girder and the Rogues eliminated the last of Flash’s allies and demanded Flash have a showdown with them in Central City. Flash fought valiantly, but the Rogues soon had him on the run. He ran to Keystone, which had been taken over by the Thinker. Thinker and the Rogues both claimed Flash for themselves. Flash fled, and the Rogues pursued him. Mirror Master activated the reflection, a mirror that would keep the world unaware of their activities in Keystone. By the time the Rogues found Flash his mind had been taken over by the Thinker. Although the Rogues separated Flash from the Thinker, Keith Kenyon rescued Flash and brought him to safety before the Rogues could kill him. Flash defeated the Thinker and Kenyon tipped off the FBI about the Network. The Rogues attacked Kenyon and Flash, defeating them. Girder pepared to crush Flash’s skull, but Magenta suddenly remembered her love for Flash and used her magnetic powers to rip Girder in two.

(Flash II #189) - S.T.A.R. Labs welded Girder back together, and he was incarcerated at Iron Heights.

(Flash II #192, 193) - Gorilla City gorillas tore apart the Heights and freed prisoners, including Girder, in order to find Gorilla Grodd’s cell. Flash came to the Heights and was attacked by Girder and the other freed villains. Their superior numbers had him beat when Gorilla Grodd appeared and claimed Flash for his own. Girder and the others fled the prison.

(Superman / Batman #3) - Girder and a number of other supervillains attempted to collect the billion dollar bounty President Luthor placed on Superman’s head but failed.

(Flash II #210) - Penguin wanted to expand his criminal operations into Keystone City, and to this end he hired Girder and Double Down to act as his enforcers. Flash III and Nightwing defeated the trio and handed them over to the authorities.

(Flash II #217) - Girder and the Rogues held a funeral for Captain Boomerang in Avernus.

(Flash II #222, 223) - Top mind-controlled Girder, Double Down, Murmur, Plunder and Tar Pit to act as his Rogues, an then challenged Captain Cold for the leadership of the Rogues. Cold killed Top for causing dissent among the Rogues while Top’s flunkies attacked Flash. Flash fought them off, but didn’t apprehend them because he had to deal with Zoom.

(Villains United: Infinite Crisis Special #1) - The Society made plans for a worldwide prison break to free every incarcerated supervillain, and they sent Mammoth to free the Slab's inmates. Girder was one of the released inmates, and together with the other freed villains they managed to get past a group of superheroes sent by Oracle to try and quell the Slab breakout.
