Powers: The Gironnved acted as psychopomps, shepherding the souls of the dead into the afterlife. One strike from their shepherd's crook accomplished this feat, and could also kill a living being.

History: (Hellblazer #182, 183) - The Gironnved acted as shepherds of the dead, and arrived on Earth when someone opened the door between life and death in .Stone Cross, Bedfordshire. Ghosts possessed the town, and the Gironnved started culling the living as the most expedient way to return the ghosts to the afterlife. John Constantine was helping Angie Spatchcock save her brother from the Gironnved when he found the portal to the afterlife in St. Peter's Fields mental hospital. John knew a sacrifice would be needed to close the portal, so he killed one of the Gironnved to shut the door of death.
