Base of Operations: Gotham City

First Appearance: Demon I #1 (September, 1972)

Powers: Glenda Mark had a knowledge of the occult.

History: (Demon I #1, 2) - Glenda attended a party at Jason Blood's Gotham apartment and was impressed with the wonders of his occult library. She became fast friends with Jason's associates Harry Matthews and Randu Singh. The party ended when Merlin sent an Unliving to summon Jason away from Gotham. Randu Singh sensed he was in trouble, and Singh used his ESP to activate Jason's mystic powers, turning him into the Demon Etrigan, who he'd been bonded with for centuries, and allowing him to defeat Merlin's enemy Morgaine Le Fay.

(Demon I #7) - Klarion the Witch Boy sought refuge from his elders in the Beyond Country, and fled to Jason’s Gotham apartment for refuge. The Judge and his familiar, the Draaga, assaulted the apartment and the Demon fought them off, but was poisoned by the Draaga. Klarion healed him and told him he’d be staying with his “uncle” Jason until the situation blew over. Jason went to a party with Harry Matthews and Randu Singh, but Klarion was apprehended by his elders, and summoned the Demon to his aid. Demon used a hex-sign to banish the elders, but Klarion mistakenly believed that the Demon was now his servant. The Demon shattered his illusion by transporting him off the Earthly plane.

(Demon I #8-10) - Demon was interested in Jason’s life and had his friends Harry and Randu show him Jason’s collection of occult artifacts. They noticed a break-in, and the Demon felt possessive of Jason’s valuables, so he followed a hole in the apartment to Gotham’s sewer system. The Phantom of the Sewers had stolen a sword that belonged to Merlin in a vain attempt to bring his beloved statue of Galatea to life. The Demon fended him off and reclaimed the sword. Changed back to Jason he vowed to destroy his devilish alter ego, and used the philosopher’s stone to seemingly freeze the Demon within to death. Jason threw a costume party, but the Phantom broke in and kidnapped Glenda Mark, who he believed was Galatea. The police searched the sewers for Glenda, but Jason demanded that Harry and Randu aid him in his own search. They split up, and Jason realized he’d only put the Demon in hiding, not killed him, so he used the philosopher’s stone to revive Etrigan. Etrigan tracked the Phantom and Glenda to an abandoned theatre, and persuaded the Phantom to see reason. Etrigan summoned the spirit of Galatea and had her possess Glenda. Galatea once destroyed the Phantom’s face for having betrayed her, and she promised to give it back. She summoned the Soul Snatcher that took the Phantom’s face, but his restoration of visage and soul also made the years catch up with him, and the rapidly aging Phantom died of heart failure.

(Demon I #11) - Glenda recovered in the hospital, and was visited by Hatty and Randu. She asked where Jason was, and they told her the demonology business had picked up, not wanted to reveal that he'd been kidnapped by Baron von Evilstein.

(Demon I #14, 15) - Klarion, seeking revenge for his banishment, tormented Jason with dreams of the devil’s realm, and then created a demonic duplicate of Jason / Etrigan. As long as the doppelganger lived Jason would slowly fade out of existence. He changed into the Demon and prevented the doppelganger from killing his friends Randu, Harry and Glenda, but his heroics took too long to accomplish and the Demon became an insubstantial spirit. Glenda found his philosopher’s stone and wished him back into existence. The Demon found Klarion throwing a party at Jason’s apartment, and after vanquishing his doppelganger he banished Klarion and the doppelganger to the Beyond Country.

(Demon I #16) - Morgaine Le Fay and a horde of her demons captured Etrigan and branded him with Morgaine’s mark, making him her slave. Morgaine’s emissary Warley brought Glenda Mark to her, and she tried to wrest Jason’s philosopher’s stone from her. In the struggle Warley got the stone, and power-mad he turned Le Fay to a statue before being killed by one of her demons. The spell broke Le Fay’s control over Etrigan.

(Demon III #1-3) - Jason woke up in Hell suffering from amnesia, and as he stumbled around he was attacked by a giant stone demon, but the demon's companion recognized Jason as Etrigan's host and told him he'd best leave Jason alone. Merlin cast a spell to bring Randu and Glenda to his magically protected sanctuary in Hell, and told them he didn't have the strength to bring Jason with them. Merlin was pleased with himself for foiling Asteroth's plans to rule Hell, but Glenda cursed him for leaving Jason behind, demanding he take responsibility for his brother Etrigan and free Jason of his curse. She struck Merlin, infuriating him, and he cast a spell teleporting her and Randu back to Gotham City, no longer willing to tolerate their presence, but promised to help Jason if he could. Glenda and Randu arrived at Jason's apartment, but Melin's spell created a green glow that was noticed by Jason's neighbor Mrs. Harper, who called the police. GCPD Lieutenant Kitch responded, and believing Randu and Glenda to be burglars, took them downtown. He was satisfied that they were not burglars, but Jason's friends who had a key to his apartment, but was suspicious when they couldn't agree as to where their friend was. He gave them some time alone, and they agreed they couldn't tell Kitch their friend was possessed by a demon and stuck in Hell. Randu thought he might hypnotize Kitch to make him forget the whole affair, but Kitch returned to the interrogation room, revealing he'd had a tape recorder running in the room while he was gone.- Seeing no other choice Glenda and Randu told him Jason and Etrigan's entire history. Kitch had a hard time believing them even though they seemed sincere, and they told him that Batman could confirm their story. Kitch approached Commissioner Gordon, told him the situation, and asked him to turn on the bat-signal. Batman corroborated their story about Etrigan, and believed the malevolent demon had trapped him in Hell. Gordon, remarking that Hell was outside his jurisdiction, was ready to let them go, but D.A. Richard Jaynes was listening outside Gordon's office, and demanded they be kept in custody. He suspected Jason had been murdered, and considered them prime suspects. He distrusted Batman, and disliked his relationship with the GCPD.

(Demon III #4) - Glenda sat in jail, remembering her college years and wondered where all her dreams and ambitions had gone. She remembered her first meeting with Jason and her adventures with him, and determined Etrigan had not only ruined Jason's life, but everyone around him, including her.

(Demon III #7, 8) - Klarion, who'd escaped Beyond Region, felt he owed Glenda and Randu something, so he imprisoned Jaynes, cast an illusion spell to disguise himself as him, and was present at their trial. He played Jaynes as a lunatic with no proof of guilt, and hypnotized the judge to accept Jaynes' rhetoric and steal a gun from the bailiff, aiming it at Randu and Glenda. Bruce Wayne was present at the trial and wrestled the gun away from the judge, but Klarion's interferance wasn't necessary after all as Jason, who'd returned from Hell burst into the courtroom, proving he was alive and bringing an end to the prosecutor's case. Randu and Glenda were overjoyed to see their friend back from Hell, but he broke off his friendship with them, and told them never to contact them again. Jason had realized Etrigan was not only ruining his own life, but the lives of everyone around him, and wanted to leave Gotham and make a clean break.

(Demon III #13, 14) - Glenda talked to Randu, frustrated that she hadn't been able to contact Jason over the last few weeks, and Randu insisted she respect Jason's wishes of being left alone. Klarion, wanting revenge on Etrigan, brought Harry Matthews to his side, falsely promising he'd destroy Etrigan without harming Jason and claiming he could get Harry's soul back. They assembled a gang including Tenzin Wyatt and C'th and arrived at Glenda's apartment. Klarion immediately showed his true colors, having Teekl threaten Glenda, and pressing Randu to use his psi powers to locate Etrigan. Randu's visions revealed that Jason had gone to the far East to find peace with the Order of the Green Dragon, but they used him as a pawn to summon the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo to Earth to destroy the planet and fulfill their cult's prophecy. Etrigan teamed with Lobo to procure an atomic bomb, so Klarion and company drove to Gotham's Woodside Military Base. Klarion hypnotized Major General Whitehead, who was pleased to show his "nephew" where the nukes were stored, and when Etrigan and Lobo arrived Klarion's gang attacked. Etrigan let Lobo take Klarion's gang on by himself while he rushed to the base's missile silo. Angered at being betrayed Etrigan told Klarion's group where Etrigan went while he went to find his own nuke on the base. Klarion's familiar Teekl followed Lobo to see what he was up to, and after transforming into her cat-lady form did a dance to bring him close so she could try to disembowel him. Lobo overpowered her, slamming her into a wall and leaving her in a heap before going back to his mission. Klarion and C'th focused their mystic power on Etrigan, staggering him, before Klarion cast a spell to turn him back into Jason Blood and stringing him up with cables. C'th demanded he be allowed to take Glenda as his sacrifice since he'd helped Klarion and the With-Boy told him to have fun. Lobo found his nuke, and the Phantom Stranger appeared to him, trying to appeal to his better nature to rethink what he was doing, but Lobo laughed him off. C'th grabbed Glenda, and prepared to kill her, but Lobo spotted them, and still angry at C'th attacking him unprovoked struck him, shoved his head in a tank cannon and fired it, blasting his head clean off. Glenda, with Randu and Harry following close behind, ran to the missile silo where she found Klarion torturing Jason with dark magic, and bashed him in the head with a nearby metal bar. She embraced Jason's broken and bloody form, and hoped he still lived.

(Demon III #15) - Glenda found that Jason was clinging to life, but just barely, and seeing no other choice she said the words that turned him back into Etrigan. Etrigan taunted her for her choice and teleported away to kill Lobo for his double-cross and end life on Earth by himself. Klarion, recovered from his head injury, snuck away while the Phantom Stranger appeared to Glenda, Randu and Harry to explain the predicament they were in. Every 13,000 years, halfway through the Great Tropical Year of Earth's orbit the planet entered an area of space that vibrated at a higher frequency, and at that time the chances of cataclysm were great. The Bible and the ancient records of China, Egypt and Babylon all recognized that every 13,000 years the world could undergo catastrophic change, and at that moment Lobo was set to detonate his nuke in the fault line of Megiddo, Israel, which would unleash an earthquake that would knock Earth from its' orbit. Klarion reunited with Teekl, overjoyed that she was alive but furious with Lobo for having harmed her, and when he came across C'th's corpse he took his rod of power and charged it up to cast a spell on Etrigan and Lobo. Etrigan and Lobo were having a fierce battle on Lobo's bike above Israel, and during their combat the nuke came loose and plunged toward Megiddo. Phantom Stranger sensed all these events and had Harry use the minor magic he'd learned during his time in Hell to combine with Klarion's spell, sending Etrigan and the falling bomb off to the Beyond Region. Harry, Randu and Glenda celebrated the world not ending, but Phantom Stranger had to break it to Glenda that Jason and Etrigan were either destroyed or severely altered by the spell.

(Demon III #23, 24) - Jason told both Randu and Harry that he and Etrigan had agreed to put aside their differences, and were working together to find a way to separate from each other. Harry told Jason not to put too much faith in Etrigan playing fair, and asked Jason if he and Etrigan could work on getting his soul back from Hell. Jason also admitted that he hadn’t gone to see Glenda yet, and Harry told him she’d gotten a new job jewelry store. Jason heard howling in the night, and recognized the cry of his old foe the Howler, so he transformed into Etrigan to investigate. Glenda sold some fine pieces to gangster Pretty Boy Froyd, but after he left the jewelry store he was ambushed by the Howler, who gutted him. Robin was watching Froyd, who was set for a big illegal transaction with some low-level criminals. He intervened, but the Howler overpowered him, and tried to possess him. Robin was saved by Etrigan, and together they drove the beast off. Batman had warned Robin about Etrigan being dangerous and untrustworthy, but Etrigan told Robin he was turning over a new leaf. Glenda and the GCPD arrived on the crime scene, and Etrigan apologized to Glenda for all the harm he’d caused her, kissed her hand, and promised her he was now her friend. Glenda went to see Randu, and was angry when she learned that Jason had been to see him, but not her. She demanded he use his psi-powers to find Jason. Later Froyd’s criminal pals arrived at an abandoned warehouse, which Professor Puckett was using as his lab. Puckett’s brother Chris was the last person possessed by the Howler, and he’d spent years trying to figure out how to cure him. Over the years the Howler had killed a number of people, who were later possessed, becoming new Howlers. The criminals were attacked by a Howler, and they gunned him down, but the Howler’s primal spirit left the body of his host and turned the criminals into his new hosts. Puckett got control over the Howlers when Demon, who sensed the Howlers’ presence in the warehouse, appeared. The Howlers started to overwhelm him, when Batman and Robin, following up on the Froyd case, also arrived. They stunned the Howlers with flash bangs. Puckett told Batman and Robin about how he was trying to cure the Howlers, and pleaded for them not to turn the beasts over to the authorities, fearing the GCPD would kill them. He introduced Batman to Chris / Howler, saying there was still the spark of humanity in him, but the Howler turned on Puckett, eviscerating him. Glenda, who’d learned of Etrigan’s location from Randu’s psi-power, came to the warehouse. The chaos Etrigan brought into her life made her reach her boiling point, so she unloaded the rocket launchers the criminals were going to sell to Froyd, and blasted the Howlers, killing them all. Etrigan turned into his human form, and she told Jason she loved him, even though his soul was bound to a demon, and they embraced.

(Demon III #26, 27) - Jason took Glenda and Harry out to the carnival, and while Glenda enjoyed herself, Harry was worried that good times with Jason never lasted, so he saw their time together as the calm before the storm. Wealthy conservative Darrin W. Dingle III thought the country had gone to Hell ever since Roosevelt’s New Deal, and wanted to find the perfect far right candidate for president. He employed political pollster Phil Harrity, who used Dingle’s list of traits of the ideal conservative to create a computer algorithm. Harrity ran the program three times on Dingle’s hi-tech computers, which inadvertently cast a conjuration spell that summoned Etrigan. Harrity fainted when he saw the demon, and Etrigan was peeved at being called forth like a minor demon, so he attacked Dingle’s security staff, and hopped a flight from Dingle’s mansion in Washington, DC back to Gotham. The next morning he had breakfast with Harry, Randu and Glenda. Glenda was very concerned about Jason’s abrupt disappearance, but Jason assured her he wasn’t running away from her again, and they kissed. Harry reminded Jason that he’d promised to get his soul back from Hell, and Jason promised to make it a priority to help his friend. At Dingle’s request Harrity ran his algorithm again, bringing Jason Blood back to DC. Jason transformed into Etrigan and after tearing through Dingle’s security once more threatened to push the wheelchair bound man down a flight of stairs until Dingle convinced him to listen to his proposition. He told Etrigan he wanted him to run for president, and the demon asked what was in it for him. When Etrigan learned that as Commander-In-Chief he’d have authority over the U.S. army and the country’s stockpile of nuclear weapons his interest was suddenly piqued. Etrigan fantasized about invading Hell and nuking it into a smoldering crater. He told Dingle he was his man, and would gladly run for president. To announce Etrigan’s entry into the Republican Party presidential primaries he put out a book entitled America Rules!, which also spelled out his platform of creating more jobs for the military-industrial complex and starting more wars against America’s enemies. Etrigan’s bellicose message resonated with Republicans, and he polled well. Jason, posing as one of Etrigan’s entourage, joined Glenda, Harry and Randu on the campaign trail. Glenda disliked the idea of Etrigan in office, but Jason said Etrigan didn’t have a chance of winning, and was happy to keep the demon occupied. Jason met Etrigan’s speech writer Patty Nonage, who Harry Matthews instantly developed a crush on after she accidentally sat on him. Etrigan was interviewed by Sam Donaldson, who told him his plans to make the world pay for America’s overinflated lifestyle were simplistic, and Etrigan responded by lightly roasting him with hellfire. Etrigan’s advisors told him he had to keep his temper, and the demon responded that he had because Donaldson was still alive. The Donaldson interview caused Etrigan to shoot up in the polls, and his advisor Ted Barton suggested he crash a debate between Presidential candidates Pat Buchanan and David Duke. Etrigan and his entourage arrived at the debate, and the demon pushed his way past police security, saying they couldn’t stand in the way of democracy. Etrigan was confronted by a large group of David Duke’s supporters, all neo-nazis and klansman, and ran roughshod over them. Etrigan stormed the stage, put Duke and Buchanan in painful wrestling holds, and made them say their policies were stupid. Etrigan pulled past Buchanan in the polls, and Glenda reiterated her concerns to Jason, who told her there was no way Etrigan could be President, because he wasn’t even a citizen. He turned into the demon, and Nonage secretly witnessed his transformation. An assassin shot Etrigan in the head during a rally, and this minorly annoyed Etrigan, who caught up to the assassin and threatened to torture and kill him. Superman intervened, saying that although he usually kept out of politics he couldn’t let Etrigan do that.

(Demon III #28, 29) - Etrigan momentarily blinded Superman with hellfire, and took the would-be assassin to a church belfry, asking him why he’d shot him. The man was religiously faithful, and thought he had a chance to kill Lucifer, which made Etrigan laugh. The man said other Christians would surely come after him, causing Etrigan to worry the religious right wouldn’t vote for him. Superman caught up with them, and Etrigan said he would spare the man’s life if Superman endorsed him. Superman flat out refused, saying he never took sides in elections because it was inappropriate, and further said that Etrigan was the worst candidate he’d ever seen. Superman beat Etrigan, and told him once the voting public saw him for what he was they’d defeat him as easily. Etrigan resolved to have Superman killed if he was elected President, and his PR team claimed Superman was Etrigan’s close friend and advisor. President Bush finally took notice of Etrigan, saying that he couldn’t be President because he wasn’t a U.S. citizen, and Etrigan fired back, saying that even though he was born in Hell, it was a part of Hell underneath the United States. Clark Kent wrote a series of devastating articles on Etrigan that eroded his base’s support, and Jason ran the numbers, and realized Etrigan had no chance of winning. He told Glenda, Randu and Harry that he was afraid Etrigan still had some trick up his sleeve. Patty Nonage met with Jason, revealing that she knew he was the demon. She wanted influence over him, and lusted for power, so she tried to seduce him, but Jason rebuffed her. Jason told her he needed some insurance in case Etrigan won, and handed her the spell that could transform Etrigan back into mortal form. He told Nonage that if she valued the power of the people over her own interest in power they’d all be safe. Etrigan met with Reverend Tartuffe, head of the Church of the Televangelical Voice, and got him to give the demon a baptism live on air and his endorsement in exchange for future favors once he was in office. Lois Lane told Clark Kent the news of Etrigan receiving the church’s backing, and he changed into Superman, deciding his articles hadn’t been enough to bring the demon down. Etrigan had a daydream about making America into a military power that would conquer the world, and then storming Hell and nuking Heaven. Superman gave a highly publicized speech, denying he had any affiliation with Etrigan, denouncing his warlike ambitions, and telling the American people that he could save them from supervillains, but only they could save themselves from Etrigan. Dingle and his think tank met with Etrigan to discuss his prospects, since he no longer had a chance at the Presidential nomination. Dingle rejected his team’s ideas of running as an independent or throwing in with the Democrats. Dingle had connections to the White House, and Bush was offering to dump Dan Quayle and offer Etrigan the vice-presidency if he threw his support behind Bush at the Republican Convention. Etrigan approved, making a veiled threat that he’d end up being President anyway after Bush died. Etrigan overheard Glenda, Randu and Harry making a plan to turn him back into Jason and keeping him from turning back until the National Convention was over, so he gagged and tied them up. At the convention a riot broke out between Etrigan and Bush’s supporters, and Etrigan met with Patty Nonage, telling her that if she stuck by him the rewards for her would be great. She asked Etrigan about his plans for the Presidency, and he said he’d always spoke the truth about burning the country to the ground, convincing Nonage to speak the spell that turned him back into Blood. Dingle nearly had a stroke when Nonage conceded the nominations Etrigan had gotten to Bush. Bush / Quayle won the Republican nomination, and weeks later Etrigan met with Nonage, telling her he admired her for her backstabbing ways. Later Etrigan visited Superman, telling him he intended to run again in four years.

(Demon III #30) - Jason sent Harry and Randu to a Gotham vs. Detroit ballgame, and revealed to Glenda that he didn’t want to get Harry’s hopes up, but he’d found a way to possibly get his soul back. Glenda and Jason pored over grimores, and were soon exhausted. Glenda kissed Jason, and he admitted he felt awkward because he’d hidden his feeling for her for so long. They allowed themselves to enjoy what they currently had, and slept together. At the ballgame Harry complained nonstop about how expensive things were in comparison to the ‘70s, and after getting into a heated argument with a Detroit fan he and Randu were kicked out. Randu said he’d never live it down if the U.N. heard about the incident. They returned home early, but immediately left when they saw they were interrupting something. Etrigan was happy to let Jason have a momentary joy, but to shake things up he pricked a hole in the condom Jason used.

(Demon III #31-33) - Jason and Glenda spent two days making love, and when they remembered to attend to Harry he complained that he was out of booz and cigars. Jason told him he was working on getting his soul back, but he’d need help from outside Earth. Jason created a small magical dragon, and sent it into space with a note intended for Lobo, challenging him to fight Etrigan. Jason drove Glenda to her apartment, and she said she was worried about Harry drowning himself in drink, and Jason warned that the longer Harry was without a soul the more dissolute he’d become. Jason turned into Etrigan, and went to retrieve the Eternity Book from Beckermann’s Rare Books, now Beckermann Inc. Since Abner Beckermann had experienced unprecedented personal and financial success after his deal with Etrigan. Abner was not pleased with seeing Etrigan, and said his deal was with his brother Aldo, but Etrigan retorted that with his brother’s death the duty of fulfilling the agreement fell on him. Abner said he never had any use for the Eternity Book, and threw it in the trash. Etrigan threatened to roast his entrails, and he remembered that Adrian Grout, a janitor that worked for him for 20 years, disappeared after he threw out the book, and suggested that Grout might have it. Etrigan left him, and undid the magic that made him so successful, so within minutes Beckermann’s family was in a serious accident and he lost all his wealth. Etrigan went to visit Adrian’s apartment, and learned that he’d made good use of the eternity Book, turning his apartment into a palace, and creating magic duplicates of Wonder Woman to serve him. As Etrigan fought Adrian Grout for the Eternity Book Glenda relaxed at home with her cat Mowgli. She felt hopeful about being with Jason and the possibility of him separating from Etrigan and saving Harry’s soul. She hoped they could put the last few years of magic and insanity behind them, but she had a nightmare about marrying Jason, and him turning into Etrigan and dragging her off into the night. Etrigan filled Grout with eldritch energy, causing him to explode. Asteroth, who was starting a criminal empire in Gotham, was drawn to the fight, and spotted the Eternity Book. He grabbed it, and, taking advantage of Etrigan’s weakened state, blasted him with magic bolts and spilled corrosive chemicals from a nearby tanker truck on him. Lobo arrived on Earth, looking to fight the demon, and attacked Asteroth, not wanting anyone to take his kill away from him. They fought fiercely until Etrigan recovered and ignited the tanker truck’s chemicals, causing a huge explosion. Asteroth limped away and Etrigan retrieved the Eternity Book. Etrigan reluctantly thanked Lobo, who said he wanted the pleasure of killing the demon himself. Etrigan tried to explain that he’d lured Lobo to Earth because he needed his help, but Lobo refused to listen and attacked. They fought into the Gotham subway system, and after being shocked on the third rail and run over by a subway car they were both momentarily stunned. Lobo admitted he always got a kick out of fighting Etrigan, and let him explain his offer to accompany him into Hell to save Harry Matthews soul. Etrigan promised battles aplenty and the chance to help kill Etrigan’s father Belial. The idea of patricide sealed the deal for Lobo, and he told the demon he was in. Etrigan introduced Lobo to Harry, Randu and Glenda. Lobo insulted them and forcibly grabbed Glenda, prompting Harry to promise that after he got his soul back he was going to kick Etrigan’s butt. Glenda asked Etrigan if she could say goodbye to Jason Blood before he left for Hell, and Etrigan refused, instead forcing a kiss on her. Etrigan took Lobo and Harry on a ride in his hellish hotrod, and opened a gate to Hell, driving through.

(Demon III #42-45) - After Etrigan nearly died in a confrontation with Asteroth, who'd set himself up as a Gotham crimeboss angels Duma and Remiel offered the injured Demon a job as Hell's hitman to deal with the infernal beings that had been unleashed on Earth. He eagerly agreed, loving the idea of the carnage he could cause supported by the will of Heaven, and knowing the angels authority would keep Jason from interfering with him. Jason, seeing his chance of being free of Etrigan dashed, said his goodbyes to Harry, Rama and Glenda, taking solace in the fact that Etrigan agreed to let him do so and promised not to hurt them. Glenda refused to let Jason walk away from their relationship, and banged on his door, only to be met by Etrigan, who told her he and Jason had no time for her, but she was pregnant with Jason's child and that made him laugh uproariously. Glenda waitid outside Jason's apartment until he agreed to see her, but even though she was pregnant he told her they could no longer be together. He said he'd given up on being able to separate himself from Etrigan, and feared what the Demon would do to their child. Later Jason returned to Glenda's telling her he owed her a solution to their problem. She screamed that he owed her a lot for standing beside him and going to Hell for him before demanding he leave, saying neither she nor their baby needed him. Jason contemplated telling her he'd be there for her and protect her from Etrigan, but he knew that'd be a lie. Glenda was ready to leave Gotham behind when the archfiend Asteroth raised the Gothodaemon to terrorize the city, and she knew Jason had to be somehow involved. Etrigan slew the Gothodaemon, and when Glenda wentt looking for Jason in St. Jack's Cemetary she was scared off by the Demon.

(Demon III #49) - PI Joseph D. Gunn was spying on Jason's apartment, and when Jason went down to his inner sanctum, Gunn pumped Harry for information about Jason, threatening to shoot him through the eyes if he didn't talk. Jason was using a scrying mirror to watch Glenda and Etrigan, preventing Etrigan from knowing he was being watched using masking wards. He knew Etrigan was up to something, and created a homunculus to go through a pentagram portal to Hell and follow him. Gunn burst in, demanding Jason use his magic to make him rich, and stepped on the pentagram, falling into Hell, and destroying the homunculus with an errant gunshot on the way. His curiosity made him spoy on Etrigan, who'd arrived at Baytor's castle. Lady Smega gave birth, although the strain killed her. Etrigan couldn't care less, and held up his monstrous newborn Golgotha. The sight of Golgotha drove Gunn mad, and when Jason retrieved him from Hell, he refused to say what he'd witnessed, ran home, and shot himself in the head.

(Demon III #51) - Harry, tired of Jason's moods, had himself shipped off to Glenda's apartment. They discussed the coming birth of her child, andshe said she was hoping for a boy because they were less trouble. She reiterated that she wanted no further contact with Jason, and never wanted her child to have anything to do with him.

(Demon III #52-54) - Etrigan was ready to use Golgotha to make life Hell for Jason and Glenda. Blood knew Etrigan was up to something, and recruited Merlin and the Hitman to help Jason stop him. Blood released Etrigan, who went to the hospital where Glenda had just given birth to her and Jason's daughter, ate the delivery doctor's arm, and kidnapped the babe, leaving Glenda furious and in tears. Etrigan brought her to the desecrated church where the Marlons had summoned Brandor, placed her under a protective ward a well a a more complicated spell, and allowed Jason to reemerge. He called Merlin and Hitman, who went to meet him. Jason was confronted by one of the WWI British soldiers Etrigan massacred, who led him into a place between the border of life and death. The entire regiment Etrigan killed was there, and revealed they were in the Demon's thrall. Merlin and Hitman arrived at the cemetery, and Merlin found Glenda's child, only to discover that Etrigan had placed a spell on her that would bind her oul to his son Golgotha when he brought him up from Hell. The dead soldiers wanted their pound of flesh, but Hitman located Jason with his special vision and held them off with a hail of gunfire. The soldiers followed them to the church, with Hitman keeping them at bay as bet he could. Glenda checked herself out of the hospital, stole a GCPD officer's gun, and threatened Harry and the Thing until they revealed where Jason was. Glenda was ready to shoot Blood to put an end to Etrigan once and for all. Etrigan entered Merlin's mind, promising to restore his precious powers if he betrayed Jason, and Merlin agreed to follow his orders. He placed Glenda's daughter in a pentagram to summon Golgotha so he could be bound to her. He warned Jason not to remove her lest Golgotha be unfettered on Earth. Merlin tried to kill Hitman with a mystic blast for daring to threaten him, but his magic fizzled out, and he realized Etrigan had betrayed him. Hitman shot him through the head, and he vanished, because he'd long ago placed a spell on himself that would only be activated upon his death. With no regard for himself Jason removed the child from the pentagram and bonded his soul with Golgotha. Etrigan was forced to share Jason's mind and soul, but because there wasn't enough room Golgotha turned on his own father. Jason vomited blood and collapsed. Etrigan and Golgotha's battle raged from Jason's soul down into Hell and up to the gates of Heaven, with Golgotha having the clear advantage. Golgotha killed an angel, making Etrigan realize how powerful and unhinged his son was. They returned to Jason's soul, and once Golgotha was on the verge of killing his father Jason stepped in, offering to save Etrigan. Etrigan begged for his help, and Jason made him promise to stay away from Glenda and his child. To ensure the Demon kept his promise Jason took out his heart and hid it away. With Jason allowing him full control in his mind Etrigan roasted Golgotha with hellfire and clawed him into pieces. The dead soldiers closed in on Hitman, Glenda and her child, and Hitman considered using his gun to give them a quick death, but after Etrigan's submission to Jason they disappeared. Jason, now recovered, let Etrigan out after taunting him about how great it was to watch him beg. Etrigan fled into the night and Glenda had a feeling she'd never see him or Jason again. In a rage Etrigan tore Jason's apartment to the ground and left a note saying he'd find a way to get Jason back. Harry and the Thing survived the apartment's collapse, and Harry, tired of the chaos that surrounded Jason convinced the Thing to leave Gotham with him and go on a road trip to California. Jason took a flight to London to start a new life, and Glenda, who'd chosen Kathryn for her daughter's name, tried to burn her last picture of Jason but couldn't go through with it.
