History

(The Dark Knight Strikes Again #1, 3) - Rick Rickard was elected President of the United States, pivoting the U.S. towards fascism. Rickard was actually a computer hologram controlled by Lex Luthor and Brainiac, the real power behind the government. He systematically imprisoned heroes he was worried might cause his downfall He turned the Earth against Green Lantern, who voluntarily left the planet. Green Lantern, whose ring and power battery was now part of him, moved to an alien world, where he fell in love, got married, and started a family. Batman, who’d faked his death three years earlier, returned from the underground, and with his loyal armies of Batboys and Catgirl Carrie Kelley freed Atom and Flash. Batman dared Superman, who served Luthor because he held the bottle city of Kandor hostage, to do something about it. GL kept in touch with Batman, and when Batman started his war against Luthor and the U.S. government GL knew he had to act. Luthor was turning his militaristic might against the country to quell the uprisings Batman started, and threaten to use his orbiting defense system to burn entire cities to the ground. Green Lantern grew to gigantic proportions, placed the Earth in his hand and snuffed out Luthor’s weapons. Green Lantern would always love Earth, but knew he no longer had a place on the planet and returned to space as Batman succeeded in his rebellion.
