History: (Green Lantern IV #5, 6) - The Gremlins were capitalist scientists who lived to take things apart and put them back together again and play with the evolutionary capacities of different species.. They became known to Earth, influencing German culture and teaching the people their Krolotean language. During WWII they made havoc for the Allies dismantling planes, and in recent years they created test subjects on Earth. They speeded up the evolution of a shark to make him the humanoid supervillain Shark and created a super-evolved man in Hector Hammond. They left Earth, but returned to Earth years later to check on their experiments, as well as taking the time to evolve a man into a Grey style alien form. Hector Hammond sensed their presence and alerted Green Lantern, sick of his super-evolved but immobile body. After checking up on Hammond they took Green lantern’s old enemy Black Hand, who’d lost his right hand to the hero. They replaced his hand, and his new hand killed any life that was anywhere near him. The Gremlins then checked in on Shark, who’d become almost completely animalistic, and confronted Green lantern, who was battling the villain. They wanted to further modify Lantern and his foes and sell them as weapons in an intergalactic war, but Green Lantern repelled them and handed them over to Green Lanterns Tagort and Venizz, who’d previously been affected by the Gremlins and were determined to apprehend every last one.
