History:
(iZombie #1) - Gwen had comes to terms with the fact she’d left her old life behind, and decided not to think of it again. She was employed as a gravedigger at the Green Pastures Cemetery, and her only friend was Ellie, a ghost who’d died in the ‘60s. They spent most of their time together in a mausoleum in the cemetery, and while Ellie craved adventure Gwen was more laid back. They went to their favorite diner, Dixie’s firehouse, where their were-terrier pal Spot begged them to join him at a table. Spot was always desparate for her attention, and because she once mentioned she liked the Dixie Mason, Action Girl series of mysteries he bought her a Dixie doll mint in the box. Gwen loved the present, but Spot quickly bored her with stories of the possible supernatural events that inspired the Dixie stories. Gwen thought she spotted someone she might have known from her old life and abruptly left, disappointing Spot. Ellie and Gwen returned to the cemetery, never realizing they were being trailed by Diogenes and Horatio of the Fossor Corporation, a group of monster-hunters investigating an upswing of supernatural occurrences in Eugene. Gwen needed her monthly zombie meal of brains and dug up a man she’d buried that morning, with Ellie leaving her to it since she didn’t like to be watched when she ate. Gwen reflected that her life consisted of digging a hole, filling it up and repeating the process ad nauseum, and she felt like Sisyphus. The man’s memories flooded her as she consumed his brain. He’d been murdered by a bandaged man, and his soul cried out for vengeance, so Gwen reluctantly decided to find his killer.
(iZombie #2) - Gwen furiously started a new series of paintings from the memories of Frederick Harris, and Ellie admired her finished work, especially the paintings of Harris’ wife and son. Gwen painted a bandaged man who was the last thing Harris ever saw, suspecting he was the killer, as well as the bandaged man’s gothic mansion. Ellie recognized the house where they went trick-or-treating last October and were chased off the property by a creepy man. Gwen also painted a nude redhead, saying she suspected she lured Harris to his death. Back at work Gwen saw Harris’ wife and son at his gravesite and felt compelled by the part of Fred that was in her mind to say hello. The conversation quickly got awkward and Olivia Harris told Gwen to leave her alone and get back to burying people’s loved ones. John Amon, Harris’ killer, took some snapshots of Gwen, realizing she suspected him. Gwen spoke to Ellie, who was looking through a magazine story about China and wishing she could travel. Gwen felt for her, because ghosts were confined to the haunts they knew in life, and that took a toll on someone as adventurous as Ellie. Ellie didn’t want to sit around moping and asked Gwen if she was ready to find Mr. Mummy.
(iZombie #3) - Gwen asked Spot to do some internet research to find out more about John Amon, and Spot met Gwen and Ellie at Dixie’s, despite it being a full moon. He was in were-terrier form but wore a hoodie to keep from attracting attention. Spot showed them what he could dig up on John Amon, which was virtually nothing. He noted that Amon had no criminal record and he couldn’t picture him as a murderer. Spot excused himself before he was noticed and returned to his apartment. The vampire Claire chose Spot’s work buddy Ashok Patel as her next victim after meeting him at a nightclub and led him off. She was being trailed by the Fossors when Claire bumped into Gwen, knocking her over. Claire cursed Gwen for her clumsiness before continuing on her way. Horatio picked Gwen up and the two were attracted at first sight. Diogenes chided his partner, saying they couldn’t lose their target, and Horatio told Gwen he hoped to see her around. Ellie was amazed to see Gwen show an interest in a man, and teased her about having a new boyfriend. Gwen and Ellie spied on Amon’s house, hidden in the grass until Ellie got bored and decided to materialize inside the house. Gwen had a vision, seeing Harris in a car accident that completely changed his personality and made him lose impulse control. Angry outbursts at his family led to him seeking a new partner and getting seduced by a redhead. Gwen started to worry about how long Ellie was gone and forced her way in through the front door. John Amon and Ubasti greeted her, and John said there was much for them to discuss.
