(JLA #29-31) - Triumph told Gypsy and Ray they were invited to join the JLA. He actually meant he was planning on destroying the JLA, and making his team into a new Justice League, and mind-controlled them so they’d team with him. Triumph had unleashed the 5th Dimensional genie Lkz on Earth, and planned on saving the day once it destroyed the JLA. They broke into the JLA Watchtower and waited. Steel arrived and they drove him off, but when they were ready to arrive on Earth and act as the triumphant heroes they were halted by Batman and Aquaman, who defeated them. Ray and Gypsy shook off Triumph’s control, and Triumph’s schemes ended when the Spectre turned him into ice to punish him for the deaths Lkz caused.

She contacted Martian Manhunter, who came to her aid in fighting them, but Gypsy was killed in the conflict. Manhunter took her body and escaped the Justice League by leaping into one of the holes that opened into Hell. He found himself in the Martian afterlife where he met the god Hronmeer and asked him to bring Gypsy back to life. Back on Earth Manhunter restored the memories of the League so they could remember the heroes they once were. They rejected their infernal possession and burst into flames. Hronmeer returned Gypsy to life and Manhunter told her how much he cared about her because he identified her with his deceased daughter.

Egyptian authorities detained her, but she found she had thye newfound ability to cast illusions of other people and disguise herself as archaeologist Dr. Habibi to get free. She talked to Martian Manhunter who revealed that millennia ago White Martians used Earth for their experiments, and that his ancestors formed a colony in ancient Egypt to round up those experiments. He even hinted that Gypsy's psionic powers might be the result of White Martians experimenting on her ancestors. They returned to the Sphinx, and Manhunter laid the soul of his ancestor J’Ahrl J’Onzz to rest.
