History

(Green Lantern I #1) - Hop Harrigan's pal Tank said men were after him, and Hop saw him dragged away by athletic gentlemen. He hailed a cab driven by Doiby Dickles, and told him to follow in hot pursuit. A police officer pulled them over for speeding, and Hop pretended to be violently ill and on his way to the hospital. The police officer followed them following Tank, and when he realized they were lying about hop being sick he threw Hop and Doiby in jail. Green Lantern busted them out, telling Hop he was proud of the spy-buster, and they found Tank in a spa. Tank said he was on a health regiment under pressure from his girlfriend, and when he avoided treatment he got dragged in anyway. Hop was mortified to learn he hadn't been kidnapped, but GL just laughed.

(Green Lantern I #4) - Hop and Tank were in San Francisco when they learned that Nazis had knocked out an air warden, and had used a trained German Shepherd to send signals to enemy pilots with a car's blinkers. The Nazis took them hostage, but they managed to free themselves and knock the spied unconscious. They found the Nazi codebook and signaled a bomber to land next to them, then drew their guns, and had the Nazis arrested.

(Green Lantern I #5) - There was a mass exodus of Mayan natives from the Yucatan to the temples of Kukucal, and forty million dollars worth of fiber needed for the war effort was going to waste. Hop and Tank suspected a Nazi plot, and investigated. They reached Chichen Itza, city of the dead, and painted their plane's tow target to resemble Kukucal, frightening the natives into fleeing from the pilgrimage. Thr false prophets that started the whole kerfuffle hauled Hop and Tank into a temple pit holding a boa constrictor. They escaped using a tear-gas pen, and ribbed some jade from the temple to donate to a museum.

(All-Flash Comics #6) -  Hop and Prop Walsh went fishing off the Florida Keys and snagged a 600 pound sawfish. Hop flew the Winnie back towards Cocos Biancha, but came across a schooner that opened fire. They investigated and found a Nazi sub draining fuel from the schooner, and Prop used his fishing line to rip off the schooner s radio antenna so the sub couldn't communicate with its  raiding partner. Prop fell off the Winnie during his heroics, so Hop dumped the sawfish to lighten the load, and flew to Cocos for another fishing line. He returned to the schooner and cast his rod out after attaching it to a voltage coil, electrocuting the Nazis.

(Green Lantern I #6) - Hop and Tank got a top-secret message from A.A.F. Asiatic Command halting bombing on Tokyo because the barrage balloons outside the city contained American P.O.W. Hop said he had a plan, and told command to commence bombing while he flew ahead and rescued the prisoners. He'd forged a sharp aluminum blade attacked to the underside of his plane, and used it to sever the mooring cables of the balloons, counting on the wind to take them over allied China, where the P.O.W.s would be safe. Japanese Zeros shot Hop down, but they crash-landed safely and met their rendezvous, the Allied Wolfish sub.

(Green Lantern I #7) - Hop and Tank were assigned to accompany the Women's Auxiliary Ferrying Service bringing bombers from Newfoundland to Ireland, and Hop moaned about being a "nursemaid." On the flight they were ambushed by German stukas, and Hop ordered the women to retreat, fearing they'd panic. The women refused to flee, and kept the Nazis occupied for so long that they ran out of fuel.

(Green Lantern I #8) - Hop was giving blood at the Red Cross, and his bed was next to Jon L. Blummer, who wrote comic features about Hop. Word got out that a hospital ship had been grounded by Nazis off Newfoundland, and Hop was ordered to bring plasma to save the wounded. He dragged along Jon, who he thought was a gunner. When Hop learned that he wasn't he tried to inspire him with a story about Tank's recent service in South Africa. Tank was facing a firing squad, but turned the tables by ripping a brick from the wall he was against and tossing it at the Nazis. He used the distraction to grab a grenade and finish them off. Hop flew to Newfoundland, engaged in a dogfight, and disabled the Nazi U-Boat that sank the hospital ship.

(Green Lantern I #9) - Hop and Tank were sent to New Guinea in an unarmed courier to deliver radio equipment. Shots from a Japanese squadron downed the plane, but Hop successfully made the delivery. Squad leader Hakisaki bombed New Guinea every day, and Hop sent out a challenge over the radio for them to meet in a dogfight. Hop used grappling hooks to attach the courier to Hakisaki's Zero and shot a tommygun at him. Hakisaki would not submit to being captured, so he crashed his plane while Hop parachuted away.

(Green Lantern I #10) - Hop and Tank were sent to make a mail delivery to the Pacific island Wingi-Bangi, and Tank brought some jewelry, deciding to set himself up as a trader. They were forced to crash-land after an attack by Japanese planes, and met Wangi-Bangi Salambingo, whose men helped them fight off Japanese ground troops. The natives thought Tank's jewlery was a gift for them, and gave him the maiden Fatti-Fatti for a wife. He couldn't insult his hosts, but wiggled out of marriage by pronouncing her and a Japanese soldier husband and wife.

(Green Lantern I #11) - Hop and Tank flew Riccardo and Maria to a Pacific island. Tank was curious about the couple, but enraged Riccardo by flirting with Maria. He investigated their baggage, and accidentally released self-inflating animal balloons. They interfered with Hop trying to dodge a Japanese plane, but when they released the balloons from the plane the enemy soldier thought they were a secret weapon and fled. On the Pacific island Hop and Tank got some bedrest, but when Tank got up he saw Riccardo throwing knives at Maria on a stage. When he intervened RTiccardo pinned him to the wall with knives. The couple turned out to be a Vaudeville act there to entertain the troops.
