History: (Adventure Comics I #41, 42) - Jack was rambling, and met a man named Stomp, accompanying him to his home on the way to Hondas. They met Slash Morlin and his gang, who had Stomp's son Speck at gunpoint. Stomp was playing the fiddle at the town dance, and Slash ordered him to play a particular tune when Sherriff Henkle was on the dance floor, so they could use the opportunity to rob a bank. The gang ordered Woods to be on his way, and Stomp agreed, knowing Slash had no compunctions about murdering his boy. Jack Woods followed him, and took out Slash's lookout, forcing the gang to guess when they should approach the bank. Woods told Stomp he had a plan to save his son. Jack beat up Miguel, one of Slash's men, and took the man's clothes. This let him get close enough to Slash to gun him down. Stomp freed his son and provided cover while Jack confronted the rest of the gang, guns blazing. The sheriff was pleased with Jack, but a stranger on the old dusty trail found Jack, pulled his gun on him, and told him he was taking him in for murder.
