(Batman I #673 (fb)) - Joe Chill used his ill-gotten gains to found the Land, Sea, air Transport company. He left street level crime behind was was still involved in criminal activities. Batman began visiting his penthouse every night, terrorizing him until Joe was a nervous wreck. Joe sat in his penthouse drinking and surrounded by his cronies, asking them to reassure him that there was no way for Batman to get at him. Chill told his men his mother was a prostitute, and when he died he had to fight to survive. He was proud of clawing his way up from the streets, and said any violence or murder he committed could be justified by class warfare. He thought back to murdering the Waynes, and how he couldn’t bring himself to kill Bruce because he reminded him of the son he lost. Batman dispatched his goons and confronted him with the gun he’d used to kill the Waynes. Joe Chill finally recognized Batman as the young boy whose parents he’d killed. He was in shock that he was the man who made the Batman, and said the underworld would destroy him if they knew what he was responsible for. Batman handed him the gun and left. Joe Chill started at the gun, and feeling he had no choice pulled the trigger.
