History(Flash I #105) - Katmos was part of a race of iron-based lifeforms that ruled the Earth 8 MYA. Their civilization was destroyed by a comet, with Katmos being the lone survivor. He placed himself in a cylinder that placed him in suspended animation for millions of years until he woke in the present day. He used his telepathy to lure archaeologist John Haines into digging the mountainside where his cavern sanctuary was located and freeing him from the cylinder. Katmos wanted to rule the world as he had done ages ago and began constructing a mind-control ray with parts he stole from various factories in Central City. He went to Central City Park and was confronted by the Flash, but he managed to knock the hero out with a blast form his gun. Flash woke in Katmos’ cylinder, and the villain explained that the cylinder he was in would activate machinery that would make him 1,000 times heavier than normal and unable to move once it was struck by the rays of the sun through a hole in the cavern ceiling. Flash vibrated his feet, building up the air pressure in the bottom of the cylinder and launching it into the sky. He crashed to earth, freeing himself of the cylinder, and after managing to avoid Katmos’ blasts from his mind-control ray knocked him out and handed him over to the police.
