This murder set off a series of reincarnations, Khufu would be reincarnated, fall in love with Shiera's reincarnation, and eventually be killed by Hath-Set's reincarnation. Roderic was a wealthy collector of artifacts who made his name as a ruthless dealer in art and antiquities who had an international presence and worldwide criminal contacts. He wanted to own anything and everything, and was hubristic enough to believe that his money could get him any historical treasure he desired.
(Hawkman IV #1-4) - He wanted to acquire the Stonechat Museum collection, and tried to financially ruin the museum. The curator Oliver Evans sent his son Danny to India to recover the Third Eye of Shiva, so Roderic hired supervillains Tigress, Shadow Thief and Copperhead to steal it from him. He'd previously hired them to recover artifacts from the Vatican, but that mission was a disaster. Roderic learned that Hawkman and Hawkgirl were friends of Oliver, and were investigating the mysterious murder of Hawkgirl's parents some years ago, so he hired superhuman hit man Bloque to kill them, but the villain failed. The Hawks left for India, and Roderic stopped by Stonechat to brag that their collection would soon be his. In India Danny uncovered the underground temple, and Roderic's thugs made their move, and Copperhead was ready to eat the archaeologist, but his friends Hawkman and Hawkgirl arrived on the scene. Artemis was happy to have a rematch with Hawkgirl, having convinced herself that she'd only lost last time because Hawkgirl got lucky. They clashed, and the battle went in the Hawks favor. Roderic had the local military in his pocket, and they phoned him to tell him the Hawks had almost reached the Eye, so he ordered a missile strike, caring little for the survival of his hired muscle. The Hawks and their foes survived, but the temple was blasted open, and the eye opened a portal to the Battlelands, a pocket dimension created by Shiva. In St. Roch Roderic continued to negotiate bribes with Mayor Dessau so Dessau would help him acquire Stonechat. The Hawks defeated Roderic's thugs, and they reported their failure to their boss. He as disappointed, but took comfort in the fact that he now knew where the Eye was, and that it indeed had magical properties. A voice erupted in Roderic's head telling him to kill the Hawks.
