KRONA

Real Name: Krona

Class: Extraterrestrial (Maltusian)

Occupation: Supervillain, scientist

Group Affiliation: None

Known Relatives: None

Aliases: Entropy

Base of Operations: Nekron's dimension, formerly Oa

First Appearance: Green Lantern II #40 (October, 1965)

Powers: Like all Maltusians Krona possessed genius-level intellect, was immortal, invulnerable and possessed psionic powers. As Entropy he possessed vast superhuman strength and was composed of anti-energy. Anyone Entropy came into contact with lost years from their life, and he could absorb others into his body, converting them into more anti-energy. Entropy created the Soldiers of the Third Law, an army composed of anti-energy that were completely under his control.

History: <10 billion years ago> Oa; Krona devised a machine that would let him see into the past and witness the creation of the universe. He was repeatedly warned by his fellow Maltusians not to go through with his plan, be he defied their wishes. His machine showed him a giant hand holding a cluster of stars, then the machine exploded. Due to Krona's actions the Anti-Matter Universe was created and a great force of evil was unleashed on the cosmos. The Maltusians punished Krona by turning him into a disembodied energy state doomed to wander the universe. The Maltusians were so remorseful for Krona's actions that they became the Guardians of the Universe, a force dedicated to preserving what Krona had unwittingly harmed.

Krona used the energies of Green Lantern's power ring to return to a physical state. He once again tried to reveal the secrets of creation, but was stopped by Green Lantern I and Green Lantern II. The Guardians of the Universe once again turned him into an energy state.

(Green Lantern III #35 (fb, BTS) - The explosion Dawlakispokpok set off didn't kill Krona, it transformed him into a powerful anti-energy creature. Krona was still in denial that his terrible experiment had caused irreparable damage to the universe, so he convinced himself that the Guardians were going against the law of the universe by preserving order. The third law of thermodynamics stated that everything descend into entropy, so Krona took the name Entropy and vowed to destroy the Guardians and their orderly universe.

(Green Lantern III #32-35) - In order to destroy the works of the Guardians Entropy absorbed the New Guardians and Chosen into his body, then attacked Oa and the Guardians of the Universe. The Guardians were defended by the GLC, but Entropy made them question their loyalty to the Guardians. The fight was going in his favor until the Chosen within him sacrificed their lives to help Green Lantern Hal Jordan and the Corps dissipate Entropy's anti-energy body.

(JLA #107 (BTS), 114 (BTS)) - Within the cosmic egg Krona started to form a budding new universe. Metron observed the universe’s growth and wanted to see that no one would interfere with it.

In the pre-Crisis DCU Krona's viewing of the creation of the cosmos caused the creation of the multiverse as the universe replicated into an infinite number of parallel universes.
