History(Claw the Unconquered #8) - Mahan K’handa was a politician in the Planes of Law, but was frustrated that his rise to power was slow, so he began studying the occult to give him an edge over his opponents. He cast a spell that banished him to the 7th Void, where the powers controlling that alien dimension turned him into a wormlike being. Mahan prayed to the Dark Ones, and they listened, impressed by how corrupted his soul was. The Shadow-God gave him supernatural powers, and a kingdom to call his own in the Void. The Shadow-God took huis soul and put it in a glass vessel that Mahan was allowed to wear around his neck. Mahan was told that he would be reunited with his soul if he protected the magic sword Moonthorn from Claw, its’ rightful owner. Claw traveled to the 7th Void seeking Moonthorn so he could slay the demon N’Hglthss, and made his way to Mahan’s domain. A protective spell kept Claw from taking Moonthorn, and Mahan K’handa introduced himself to Claw. He said the protective spell he’d cast would only dissipate if he died., but made it clear his soul was at stake so he had no intention of failing the Dark Ones, and summoned a horde of demons to attack Claw. Claw butchered them, but when he attacked Mahan he found that he was impervious to physical attacks. Claw noticed the glass vessel around his neck and shattered it. Mahan and his soul were dragged away by the Dark Gods, and his protective spell dissipated. Claw took the Moonthorn, and the Shadow-God spoke to him, saying their fates were intertwined and they were destined to meet in battle. The Shadow-God advised Claw to simply yield, but Claw disregarded him.
