MANHAWKS

Class: Extraterrestrials

Known Representatives: None

Aliases: None

Base of Operations: Aptilia solar system

First Appearance: The Brave and the Bold I #43 (September, 1962)

Powers: The Manhawks were hawklike aliens who possessed human-level intelligence. They were telepaths who could exist in the void of space and travel immense distances by flying through hyperspace. Manhawks wore masks equipped with eye-slits that shot destructive bolts of energy and teleportation beams.

History: The Manhawks warred with the Lizarkons, neighbors in their solar system. The Lizarkons destroyed the Manhawk homeworld, and the Manhawks became interstellar thieves, robbing from any planet they came across for the resources they needed. The Lizarkons started dying off, and realized their lives were dependant on the energy in Manhawks' bodies. The remaining Lizarkons went into suspended animation except for the few charged with finding the Manhawks. The Manhawks targeted Thanagar, where crime was unknown, and the hero Katar Hol dispatched them. Thanagarians began robbing in imitation of the Manhawks, and the Thanagarian police force was soon formed, with Katar Hol serving as Hawkman for the forces of law and order.
