PowersThe Maugites were a fishlike underwater race capable of breathing air for a few hours at a time. They were a warlike species armed with rayguns.

History(Flash I #109) - The Saremites were a primitive humanoid undersea species whose existence were threatened by the bellicose fishlike Maugites. The Saremites theorized that their was life on Earth’s surface, but were unable to make contact with the human race. Astronaut Fred Jensen went up in a satellite and orbited around Earth, but his guiding mechanism jammed, plunging him into the sea. A navy vessel recovered the satellite and Jensen was unexpectedly found alive. Fred called his good friend Barry Allen and they went out for dinner. Fred said he couldn’t recall anything that happened after his satellite crashed, but he had a recurring dream that it was discovered by the Saremites, who begged him to send help in their battle against the Maugites. Barry wondered if Fred’s dream actually occurred, and as the Flash he raced to the bottom of the sea, encountering the Saremites. He stopped a Maugite incursion and followed them out into the sea, incapacitating them by creating a whirlpool. The Saremites finally had hope that their enemies could be defeated and one of them showed off his new invention, a primitive bow and arrow, to the Flash. Flash decided it best to let the Saremites handle their own problems, satisfied that he’d properly inspired them. The Saremites were so grateful to Fred Jensen for sending the Flash their way that they fashioned a ring made of the luminescent rock that lighted their city. Barry Allen presented the ring to Fred, telling him his dream was real, and Fred said he’d value the gift for the rest of his days.
