(DC Comics Presents #5) - Mera and Aquaman argued about Vulko’s undersea farms when a seaquake struck Poseidonis. The people of Tritonis blamed Poseidonis, and made Ocean Master their king in exchange for his protection. Superman helped Aquaman expose Ocean Master as the culprit behind the seaquakes, and he was deposed.

(JLA: Our Worlds at War #1) - An Imperiex Probe was attacking Atlantis and Aquaman rushed to the rescue. He said goodbye to Mera and Tempest and armed himself with Neptune's trident. He defeated the Probe, but the resulting explosion seemingly vaporized him and Atlantis.

(JLA #72, 74, 75) - During the Imperiex War Tempest cast a secret spell taught to him in use of emergencies. As Imperiex exploded, Atlantis vanished to the year 1,000 B.C., leaving a deep gash in the ocean called the Atlantic Trench. Mera and the Atlanteans were enslaved by the sorceress Gamemnae, who turned Saquaman to water and kept him captive in a mystic pool. Gamemnae branded the Atlanteans as traitors and forced them to slave to support the Atlantis of 1,000 B.C, which shed raised to the surface. After 15 years of hard labor the JLA traveled into the past looking for Aquaman, and promised to free the Atlanteans. The JLA fell in battle, crushing the hope of the Atlanteans, but their souls had been saved by Manitou Raven. Another JLA lineup went back in time, defeated Gamemnae, restored Aquaman, and returned Mera and the Atlanteans to the present day. Mera blamed Aquaman for their years of enslavement and told him there had to be a reckoning.
