History: (Steel vol. 1 #2)-Dr. Moag was a renowned scientist and peace advocate operating out of Washington, D.C. in the late 1930s. His greatest invention was a transmuter which somehow imbued minerals with the semblance of a mind and could alter their appearance. He was almost ready to test the transmuter on animals when Prussian spies barged in on him and attempted to steal the machine. Dr. Moag fell into the transmuter and was transformed into the Mineral Master. His mind and body were both twisted; while Dr. Moag was a pacifist, the Mineral Master wanted to preserve peace by destroying the armed forces of the world. Mineral Master started his mission of peace by destroying an airplane hangar, but was confronted by Commander Steel. Mineral Master fled, and resurfaced at a N.Y. radio station the next day, making a speech to recruit allies in his mission to dismantle the U.S. miltary. Commander Steel again fought him, eventually discovering that Mineral master was drawing his powers from being in contact with minerals in the ground. After Steel knocked Mineral Master out, he held him aloft for twelve hours, at which point Mineral Master's powers apparently faded. It is unknown if Mineral Masters' powers were permanently drained, or if he ever reverted back to Dr. Moag.
