History: (Hellblazer #1, 2) - Mnemoth terrorized a Sudanese village, starving everyone, and a shaman reluctantly made the decision to bind the spirit into the body of a young boy. The boy was tattooed with mystic symbols to keep the demon inside him, and the demon's hunger would consume the boy, and inadvertently himself. The shaman sent the boy to the mountains to die, but slavers captured him, and sent him to Tangiers. In Tangiers the mystic Gary Lester found him, and exorcized the demon, killing the boy. He placed Mnemoth in a bottle, but the demon whispered to him in hopes of using him. Gary was weak-willed, so he sent Mnemoth in a package to NYC. Constantine was already on his way back to England, so the package remained in the post office, and Mnemoth used his powers to arouse hunger in New Yorkers, forcing them to gorge themselves to death. Constantine tracked Mnemoth to a church, but the demon was too powerful, and he had to flee before he was devoured. Mnemoth flew over the city driving people to destroy themselves, and relishing his brief contact with their feelings of desire. John and the Haitian magician Papa Midnite kept Gary off heroin, and his desire combined with his past association with Mnemoth drew the demon in. Gary finally realized he was being sacrificed, and begged John to stop, but the plan was already in motion. Mnemoth entered Gary, and John tattooed him with the binding marks. John put Gary into a cell and waited for the demon and him to consume each other. Gary screamed in pain, begging for a merciful death, and John got completely drunk.
