History: (Superman I #300) - <2001> In the late 20th century a third superpower rose up to compete against the US and USSR. When a Kryptonian alien landed on Earth the U.S. took custody of him, and the USSR demanded he become a ward of the UN. The third power took advantage of the tension to try and wipe out their competitors by using their tech to launch the U.S.' nuclear missiles against the USSR and vice versa. The alien, Kal-El, saved the world, and brought about peace talks between the US and USSR before disappearing. The third power's new plan was to create an android that would gain hold of the hearts and minds of the U.S. Their android Moka, appeared in Times Square in the year 2001, claiming to be a visitor from the stars who saved the Earth from nuclear apocalypse in 1990. He demanded allegiance, and said he had a set of laws to live by. The third power knew he could be the key to control over the U.S., and the American public, starved for a hero, accepted him. Kal-El came out of retirement as Superman to confront Moka. Superman easily destroyed Moka, telling the people of Earth that they didn't need an imaginary savior to lead them. He knew the people of Earth could control their own destiny, and he told them he had faith in them before flying off.
