History: The Monitor came into existence on Oa's moon and immediately began to learn about the world around him and unlock the secrets of the multiverse. He became aware of the Anti-Monitor  in the anti-matter universe, who wanted to destroy the multiverse. As the appointed protector of the multiverse the Monitor  waged war for one million years with the Anti-Monitor. At the conclusion of their battle they found themselves deadlocked, but they did manage to knock each other unconscious. The Monitor stayed in this state for nine billion years.

The Monitor awoke at the same time Pariah accidentally revitalized the Anti-Monitor.

(Saga of the Swamp Thing #30, 31) - The Monitor and Harbinger took notice of the Hell on Earth Anton Arcane had created in Louisiana. Harbinger asked him what they should do, and he told her they would watch and see how the situation played out. He witnessed Swamp Thing defeating Arcane.

The Monitor assembled Earth's heroes and formed a plan to save the multiverse from the Anti-Monitor. The Monitor died, but out of his essence was created a safe haven for Earth-1, Earth-2, Earth-4, Earth-S and Earth-X, the only parallel Earths in the multiverse that Anti-Monitor had not destroyed. These Earths combined, transforming the multiverse into a single universe. These events, the Crisis on Infinite Earths, rewrote history from the beginning of time, so that the multiverse never existed.

Monitor  received a profile in Who’s Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe #16.

So how did the Monitor's actions play out in post-Crisis DC continuity? Seriously, I'm asking, any commentary by learned fans would be appreciated.
