History: (Action Comics I #16) - Ool was the ruler of Saturn, and his heirs were his sons Gorla and Porra. Saturn's seas dried up, and the once fertile planet became fallow. Using experiments with cosmic rays he found a method of transforming matter into energy, and made Gorla into an energy being, charging him with finding an inhabitable planet for the Saturnians to migrate to. Gorla discovered Earth, and put an Earthling under his thrall by threatening to burn him alive with his energy body. Gorla saw humans as a foolish race, and Earth as full of resources perfect for his people. Magician Zatara witnessed Gorla's first attempt to turn a human subject into energy that would be transported to Saturn for study, and used his magic to foil him. Gorla used his cosmic ray to transport Zatara in energy form to Saturn, where his body reassembled. He was taken by prince Porra to see his father, Ool, and told him of the Saturnian plight. Gorla chose poorly when he made Zatara a representative of Earth, and he disturbed Porra by making Ool's city seemingly vanish. He pulled the same trick on king Ool to get him to listen, and used his magic to show how Saturn could be irrigated, allowing the Saturnians to stay on their home planet. He asked Ool for truce, but he was hotheaded and ordered his guard to kill Zatara. Zatara defeated the guard, and used his magic to shower Saturn with meteors. As a final act of power he had a huge arm grow from Earth and throw a mudball at Ool, who finally listened to reason. He said the Saturnians would stay put, and use irrigation to make their land prosperous again.
