He appeared out of nowhere to battle Aquaman, proclaiming immense hatred for the sea king. In their battle Charybdis stole Aquaman's powers and the hero had his left hand eaten by piranhas. Dolphin shot Charybdis, and, not having mastered Aquaman's powers he fell into the pool of piranhas and was left for dead.

(Aquaman Secret Files #1) - Chaybdis formed a mental link with the piranha eating him, and absorbed their essence, evolving into the Piranha-Man. He found Aquaman's mother Atlanna and resurrected her into an aquatic patchwork creature. He chained her up and had her translate the Atlantis Chronicles for him, so he could gain insight on how to defeat Aquaman.

(JLA #34) - Mageddon approached Earth, and sent a remote sender to Belle Reve prison, where drove Charybdis and the other prisoners berserk with rage, sparking off a riot. The JLA quelled the riot.
