Known Relatives: unnamed mother (deceased), unnamed son

History: (JSA #50 (fb, BTS) - At the age of eighteen Kara awoke on post-Crisis Earth. Arion made a promise to her mother to protect her, so he made up a story about her origins. He told her that 45,000 years ago in Atlantis Kara's parents died shortly after she was born and she was put in the custody of her grandfather, Arion. Arion gave her superhuman powers using experimental genetic experiments. Arion's half-brother Garn Daanuth channeled his evil magic through Kara's body in an attempt to destroy Atlantis, so Arion sent Kara into another dimension within a magic crystal to save her life. He told Kara she aged very little over the thousands of years she was within the crystal. In the modern era she was released on Earth at the physical age of 22. After hearing Arion's story she took on the identity of Power Girl and became a superheroine.

(All-Star Comics I #58, 59) - After years of keeping her existence a secret Power Girl made her debut saving Peking, China from a volcanic eruption. Flash and Wildcat of the JSA had previously failed to prevent the catastrophe, the handiwork of Brainwave, who caused a number of disasters in hopes of causing a chain-reaction that would blow up Earth. Similar circumstances averted the disasters in Capetown and Seattle, with new heroes helping the JSA. Power Girl suggested that Brainwave set them up to fail but didn’t foresee the interference of the new heroes, whom power Girl dubbed the Super Squad. The JSA and Squad confronted Brain Wave aboard his space station, and learned that he'd sapped the willpower of the JSA that they displayed in averting the disasters to return will and youth to Per Degaton. When the JSA had the villains on the ropes, Brain Wave used his mental powers to send Earth on a collision course with the sun, demanding they submit or see the planet die. Power Girl sent Brain Wave's space station toward the sun, overheating it and causing the villain to pass out. The JSA decided to take in the Super Squad so they could learn from each other.

(All-Star Comics I #60, 61) - Power Girl didn't like the JSA treating her like a kid, so she challenged Flash to a race. She lost, but proved she never backed down from challenges. Vulcan attacked the team because he once idolized the JSA, but blamed his inhuman condition on his attempts at heroics, and now wanted to kill his former idols. He set their hq ablaze and left. Power Girl met Xlk-Jnn, the alien that gave Vulcan his powers, and he informed her that he needed to treat Vulcan because he was now vulnerable to sunlight. The mad Vulcan killed the alien, but Star-Spangled Kid now knew his weakness and used a blast of cosmic rod starlight to destroy Vulcan.

(All-Star Squadron I #62) - Power Girl and other JSAers stood guard over Dr. Fate while Dr. Mid-Nite tried to save his life. Wildcat passed the time reminding Power Girl he thought she didn't belong on the team. The JSA were called away when Lemurian sorcerer Zanadu kidnapped Hawkgirl and tried to destroy Tokyo. The JSA engaged him in battle.

(Spectre III #54 (fb)) - The JSA pursued Spirit King in Flash's body to Stonehenge, where he emerged, and jumped from one hero to the next to defeat them, ultimately taking Dr. Fate as his host, and allowing Flash to flee, and putting the idea in his head to seek Spectre's aid. Spirit King brought the heroes to Fate's Tower to punish them with hellish torments, and he animated Mr. Terrific's rotting corpse for his own amusement. Flash arrived with Spectre, and Spirit King revealed that his whole plan was to draw in the Spectre, his prize. His master was Shaitan, and he opened up a portal to Hell to consume the Spectre. Mr. Terrific's spirit arrived, and helped Spectre send Spirit King to Hell, closing the gate. Terrific said he always felt outclassed by his teammates, but he knew he was the hero that day, and the JSA said he made upo for his lack of powers with heart and guts.

(Starman I #6) -

(Action Comics #650) - Flash bragged to Power Girl and his JLI teammates about beating Superman in a race, and Martian Manhunter told him his bravado was unbecoming. He gave Flash a rundown of Superman's rich history serving with the Justice League.

(Green Lantern III #25) - Power Girl and the Justice League were on hand to watch Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner battle to determine who'd become Earth's one Green Lantern. The League initially wanted to interfere, but the Green Lantern Corps held them back, saying the fight was necessary Corps business. Hal won, and the Justice League rejoiced.

(Green Lantern III #30, Flash II #69) - Power Girl and the JLE moved their possessions into the JLE's new headquarters.

(Green Lantern: Mosaic #16-18) - Moses Rockwell and a Peeper forced John Stewart to send out an interstellar S.O.S. requesting aid in sending the cities of Mosaic World back to their home planets. Power Girl was among the heroes of Earth to respond to the signal. Once on Mosaic she found the majority of its’ inhabitants did not want to return to their home planets. Power Girl and the other Earth heroes agreed to take back only those Mosaic inhabitants who wanted to return home.

(Aquaman V #23-25) - Aquaman contacted Power Girl to help in his battle against the Hunters, who had designs on Earth. Aquaman assembled the guardian of Hy-Brasil, Nuada Silverarm, the Sea Devils, Atlan, Tsunami and Deep Blue, so they could plan a defense against the Hunters. The Hunters launched their attack against each city of Atlantis, but were repelled by the heroes. The Hunters had come to Washington, D.C. and asked for a meeting with Aquaman. They told Aquaman they only attacked because he would not listen to them, and promised a golden age of peace on Earth, but they needed his help. The Hunter’s former ally Tiamat attacked Washington. Aquaman banished Tiamat from the Earth with help from Power Girl. Accord admitted to Aquaman that the golden age would begin with a harrowing of humanity, and Aquaman broadcast his comments with Atlan's portal, ensuring that the Hunters offer would be refused. The Hunters left Earth, but promised to return when humanity destroyed itself.

(JLA #27) - Power Girl was called in as a JLA reservist to battle Amazo. Amazo was programmed to acquire the powers of the JLA, so when Power Girl and a number of other heroes temporarily joined the JLA to battle him it just made Amazo more powerful. Amazo decimated the JLA reservists, and was only defeated when Superman officially disbanded the JLA, leaving Amazo powerless.

(JLA #39, 40) - Power Girl was among the legion of heroes summoned by the JLA to quell worldwide outbreaks of warfare that were incited by Mageddon.

(Justice Leagues: JL? #1, Justice Leagues: Justice League of Amazons #1) - When the Advance Man made the world forgot that the JLA ever existed the individual members still had a vague memory of the team and formed their own Justice Leagues. Power Girl was recruited to be in Wonder Woman’s Justice League of Amazons. The League of Amazons blocked R.A. Vaje, Inc. from destroying the Selva Basin of the Amazon rainforest. Unbeknownst to the Amazons, they did the Advance Man a favor, he discovered an unbelievably deadly species of spider in Selva that he planned to ravage Earth’s population with, and the Amazons actions saved the spiders from extinction. Power Girl was approached by Aquaman, and at his request she quit the Amazons to join his Justice League of Atlantis.

(JSA: Our Worlds at War #1) - During the Imperiex War Power Girl was called in as a JSA reserve on a mission to disrupt Imperiex’s link to his ship’s power supply. The JSA not only cut off Imperiex from his power, but they managed to blow up his ship as well.

(JSA #31, 32) - When Black Canary II left the JSA she asked Power Girl to replace her on the team, and Power Girl accepted. Power Girl got a full physical from Dr. Mid-Nite II, who determined that her powers were not magic-based as she previously believed. Power Girl and the JSA welcomed Johnny Thunder, who claimed to have had a miraculous recovery from Alzheimer’s. In truth it was the Ultra-Humanite in possession of Thunder’s body.

(JSA #33-37) - The Ultra-Humanite used Johnny Thunder’s Thunderbolt to conquer the world, and imprisoned virtually every superhuman on Earth in stasis tubes, only reviving them when he needed mind-controlled slaves to serve in his personal guard the Thunderfront. Power Girl escaped Humanite’s control and joined up with a ragtag version of the JSA consisting of other heroes that broke out of the Humanite’s prisons. Power Girl and the JSA targeted the Mindsweepers who unwillingly aided Humanite in controlling the Thunderfront. After a battle with the Thunderfront the JSA used a device that disrupted the braincaps Humanite used to control the Mindsweepers and Thunderfront, leaving them unconscious but freed from Humanite’s mental domination. The JSA grounded the Thunderbolt with a lightning rod, taking away Humanite’s source of power, and the Humanite was later killed by Crimson Avenger II. Power Girl and the JSA attended the funeral of Johnny Thunder, whose body gave out after he was freed from the Humanite’s control.

(Hawkman IV #1) - Power Girl and the JSA responded when criminals hijacked a helicopter. Hawkman dealt with them swiftly and brutally, and Power Girl didn't like the old shoulder he'd been showing his teammates. Sentinel asked her to be understanding because Hawkman evidently had a lot on his mind.

(JSA #38) - Power Girl overhauled the JSA security system and set up a satellite com system for the JSA.

(JSA #39) - Power Girl had a press conference in Central Park to announce her new foundation to provide a safety net for orphaned children who’d fallen through the cracks of society. She’d always wanted to use the money she’d earned in software for a worthy cause, and turned inward to her own memories of growing up without parents. The conference was interrupted by her old enemy Force, but before they could fight Force was taken out by Da’ Bomb, a supervillain madly in love with Power Girl. She wanted nothing to do with him and when he tried to kiss her they ended up in battle. Power Girl subdued him by hitting him in the head with a hundred-foot-crane, but despite his defeat he told her he was grateful for the chance to fight her. Back at JSA hq Power Girl told Srtar-Spangled Kid and Hakwgirl about her adventure and offered them a bit of advice. Power Girl had qualities that made people think of her as a witch even though those same qualities would have been accepted in a male hero, but she told them to always be true to yourself and show people the type of woman you are, even if it’s unpopular.

(JSA #40) -The Shadower held Kenton Elementary School hostage, and promised to execute the children unless Dr. Mid-Nite saved the life of his grandfather, the original Shadower Vartan Kevork. Kevork needed a pancreatic coduodenectomy, perhaps the world’s most difficult surgery, and Power Girl and trhe JSA watched Mid-Nite perform it from the operating theatre. They did the best they could, but it was a risky surgery and Kevork died, but Captain Marvel and Star-Spangled Kid freed the hostages.

(JSA #44) - Power Girl and the JSA threw a party to welcome back Mr. Terrific, Hawkgirl and Captain Marvel, who’d been lost in time.

(JLA / JSA: Virtue and Vice) - Power Girl attended the first annual JLA and JSA Thanksgiving celebration when the teams were called to Arusha, Tanzania to stop Doctor Bedlam from disrupting the Pan-African Conference on World Hunger. The JLA and JSA defeated Bedlam, but the attack was a ruse on the part of Johnny Sorrow to give him the opportunity to have Despero possess President Luthor, who was at the conference, and to have the Seven Deadly Sins possess members of the JLA and JSA. Power Girl was possessed by Lust, and when the Seven Deadly Sins took complete control over the heroes they possessed they destroyed JSA headquarters and incapacitated the unpossessed JLA and JSA members. Under Lust’s control Power Girl allowed Lust to spread his influence on the citizens of Phoenix, Arizona. The other Sins also spread their influence across the globe. The JLA and JSA freed Power Girl and the other possessed heroes from the Sins’ influence, and returned the Sins to captivity in the Rock of Eternity. Power Girl and the others defeated Johnny Sorrow and freed Luthor from Despero. Luthor graciously built the JSA a new hq.

(JSA #45) Power Girl and the JSA provided security for the trial of Kobra for terrorist acts, which was necessary because hundreds of Kobra cultists were swarming the district court building where Kobra was being tried. Under Kobra’s orders the cultists threatened to activate bombs implanted in their bodies, killing themselves. Rather than allow the bloodshed the judge and Director Bones of the D.E.O. agreed to let Kobra go free for the time being. Black Adam and Atom-Smasher were outraged, and both agreed Kobra should have been killed for his crimes then and there. Power Girl and the rest of the JSA vehemently opposed their viewpoint, so the duo quit the team. “Dr. Fate” then removed his helmet and revealed he was really the JSA’s nemesis Mordru.

(JSA #46, 47) - Mordru tore into the JSA and incapacitated Power Girl by dropping the U.S. District Court building on her head. She challenged Mordru to fight her one-on-one without magic, and after matching him blow for blow he told her she was boring him and nearly killed her with a magical blast. The JSA were on the verge of losing when Mordru opened a gate to Dr. Fate’s Tower and left with Obsidian, threatening to unravel the universe very soon.

(JSA #49-51) - Power Girl and the JSA battled Kobra cultists who were launching terrorists attacks against Philadelphia after the Princes of Darkness pulled the moon from its’ orbit and Kobra declared the event signaled the impending end of the world. Dr. Fate sent a psychic transmission asking Power Girl, Hawkgirl and Dove to come to Gemworld and free the soul of Arion, whose body Mordu was using to exist on the physical plane. JSA reservist Dr. Occult opened a portal to Gemworld, and the heroines crossed over. The heroines rescued Arion’s soul from Flaw and Child, and Arion revealed that he made up the story about Power Girl being his granddaughter. He told her that her mother would need her help in the future, and it was up to her mother to reveal Power Girl’s true origins. Arion and the heroines returned to Earth, and Arion’s soul passed through Mordu’s form before passing into the afterlife, weakening Mordru to the point that he could no longer keep Dr. Fate imprisoned in Fate’s amulet. Fate imprisoned Mordru in the Rock of Eternity.

(Superman / Batman #1, 3, 4) - President Luthor informed a number of heroes, including Power Girl, that a kryptonite asteroid was on a collision course with Earth. Luthor told them Superman was at fault and sent them to place Superman in federal custody. They battled, but Katana and Power Girl switched sides against their teammates. The fight led to Tokyo, which was nearly destroyed when Major Force exploded. Katana told Batman and Superman about boy genius Toyman, who had a plan to stop the kryptonite meteor, but they were blocked from meeting the boy by Hawkman and Captain Marvel. Batman and Superman let the JSAers win so Power Girl and Katana could get Toyman on their side.

(JSA #52, 53) - Power Girl and Wildcat were in the process of busting a Kahndaq terrorist cell in NYC when the Crimson Avenger appeared, gunned down the terrorists, and proclaimed Wildcat her next victim. Wildcat stood in front of Wildcat, and took a number of bullets from the Avenger’s mystic gun, saving Wildcat, but finding herself badly wounded. The Avenger shot Wildcat, and claimed three of his nine lives, but Power Girl caught one of her bullets and flung it back at her, giving Wildcat time to reason with the Avenger, and convince her to give up her vendetta against him. Dr. Mid-Nite treated Power Girl for her wounds, and she told him her near-death experience made her realize she didn’t have much of a life outside of the JSA.

(JSA #54) - Power Girl, the JLA and JSA celebrated Thanksgiving at JSA hq. Power Girl was listening to a speech by Wonder Woman, and when Wildcat interrupted it, she flung him across the room. Kulak and the Warlord of Ys ruined the Thanksgiving meal, but were quickly defeated by the heroes. The JLA and JSA settled for ordering out, and had pizza for Thanksgiving.

(JSA #55) - Power Girl had to take care of Da Bomb after he broke out of prison and after Wildcat let her cat get out of the JSA brownstone she spent hours to get it back inside. She welcomed the new JSA Museum curator Ma Hunkle, who offered her tea and sympathy.

(Hawkman IV #23)- Power Girl and the JSA traveled to St. Roch to attend a party for Hawkman, but first Power Girl, Stargirl, and Hawkgirl took in the sights of the city. Power Girl went to a traor reader that hinted at her Earth-2 origins and her need to prove she deserved to exist in the universe. Hawkman’s party ended when the JSA heard a news report about Black Adam’s conquest of Kahndaq.

(JSA #57, Hawkman IV #24, JSA #58)- Power Girl and the JSA traveled to Kahndaq in the Steel Eagle with the intention of taking the members of Black Adam’s superteam, their former allies, back home before Adam completely turned them into villains. Black Adam destroyed the Steel Eagle, and the team was scattered across Kahndaq. Power Girl and the JSAers had to battle Adam’s teammates Eclipso (Alex Montez), Nemesis and Northwind. The true Eclipso took over Alex Montez, killing Nemesis and himself. Power Girl and the JSA fought Black Adam to a standstill. Atom-Smasher and Captain Marvel brokered a peace pact between Black Adam and the JSA. The JSA promised not to interfere further in Kahndaq as long as Black Adam and his team remained within the country’s orders and didn’t try conquering any surrounding nations.

(Flash II #209) - Power Girl and the rest of the world forgot Flash’s secret identity thanks to the Spectre. Flash wanted the heroes he knew and trusted to know his identity, so he unmasked for Power Girl and the JSA.

(JSA #60-62) - Power Girl and some other JSAers accompanied a tour of school children through the JSA Museum. Afterwards Power Girl and the others responded to a crime scene, an unknown shooter had killed Dr.Mid-Nite’s assistant Ice Sickle. The killer turned out to be Louis Snipe, one of the dead men the Spirit King rose from Hell to destroy the JSA. Power Girl and the JSA fought the army of the dead, but knew it was the Spectre who had to return them to Hell. Spectre banished the undead army and destroyed the Spirit King.

(JSA #63, 64) - Power Girl, the JSA and Cave Carson’s crew traveled hundreds of miles under the Earth to find Sand, and they found Sand’s body, which in its mindless state was generating an army of rock creatures to protect itself. The JSA fought off the rock creatures long enough for Power Girl to take Sand’s body up to the surface. Sand was in a molten state, and the trip gave Power Girl severe burns, but she didn’t care because she still felt the need to prove herself to her teammates. Sand recovered, and the JSA threw a party to celebrate. Wildcat gave Power Girl a JSA new year’s postcard, and she added it to the family album Superman gave to her when she first arrived on Earth. It was, so far, the one and only photo in her book.

(Superman / Batman #13) - Power Girl and the JSA were among the heroes invited to Paradise Island to welcome Superman's cousin Supergirl into the superhero community.

(JSA #65) - Power Girl and the JSA defeated Solomon Grundy, who was running amok in Central Park.

(Identity Crisis #1) - Power Girl was among the number of heroes who attended Sue Dibny’s funeral.

(JSA #67) - Power Girl mourned at Sue Dibny’s grave. Superman visited her, and she learned the Supergirl was really Superman’s cousin from Krypton. Power Girl told Superman Sue Dibny shouldn’t have died, that it should have been someone with nothing to live for, implying that was how she felt about her life.

(JSA #72) - Rip Hunter brought Power Girl and Hawkgirl to the year 1951 so they could help the JSA and Justice Society of America defeat Per Degaton, who was trying to alter history to end the Justice Society legacy. After Degaton was defeated Rip Hunter ferried the JSA back to the present. He ran into a time storm passing through 1985, the year the Crisis on Infinite Earths took place. Power Girl was shaken by the storm because she was a holdover from pre-Crisis continuity.

(JLA #112, 113) - Power Girl and the JSA were called in by the JLA when Qwardians threatened to destroy Earth with their doomsday weapon Erdammeru while the Crime Syndicate of Amerika tried to take control of Earth. Power Girl helped battle the Qwardians around Earth’s orbit, and once the Qwardians learned that Krona, not Earth, was responsible for Qward’s temporary destruction, they returned to the anti-matter universe.

(Green Lantern: Rebirth #1) - Power Girl and the JSA quarantined Warriors after Guy Gardner lost control of his powers and destroyed the bar. The only thing standing was a statue of Green Lantern, leading the heroes to worry that Hal Jordan was involved and had returned to the dark side.

(Green Lantern: Rebirth #4-6) - Ganthet summoned Power Girl and the JSA and a number of other heroes to battle Parallax, who’d completely taken over Hal Jordan. They weakened him enough for the Spectre to separate Hal from Parallax, allowing Hal’s soul to return to his body, resurrecting him. Parallax took over Ganthet, defeated the JSA, and prepared to spread fear throughout the universe, but Hal banished him to the Central Power Battery.

(DC Countdown #1) - When someone broke into a Kord warehouse and stole the kryptonite stored there Oracle called in favors to Power Girl, the JSA, and a number of other heroes to investigate the crime scene, but the investigation turned up nothing.

(JSA #73-75) - Atom-Smasher asked to be readmitted to the JSA so Power Girl and the JSA had a meeting and a vote on it. Once they’d voted, Atom-Smasher was already gone back to Khanaq. Captain Marvel told the JSA that Jean Loring/Eclipso and the Spectre-Force were attacking Khandaq, and their help was needed there. The heroes had little luck battling Eclipso and the Spectre, and Black Adam resented their presence and began fighting them. When Power Girl clashed with Adam she unexpectedly released a blast of heat vision. Spectre only stopped his attacks when Atom-Smasher told him he’d accept the Spectre’s judgment, and allowed the Spectre to stop his heart. Black Adam restarted his heart with his magic lightning, and the JSA took Atom back to America after warning Black Adam to stay far away from him in the future.

(JSA #76) - Metamorpho and Fire went to JSA hq to break the news of Blue Beetle’s death to Power Girl. They were still looking for his murderer, and they knew once they found him they’d most likely need Power Girl’s help. She told them nothing could keep her away.

(JSA #82) - Power Girl returned to JSA hq to show Ma Hunkle a diary the Lois Lane of Earth-2 gave her. Ma could read shorthand, and read Power Girl an entry dealing with the pre-Crisis Batman and Superman of Earth-2 battling the Gentleman Ghost. Power Girl cried herself to sleep, torn about helping Superman of Earth-2 bringing back the Earth she knew and loved at the cost of the deaths of everyone in the post-Crisis universe.

He defeated China's superhero team the Great Ten before China allowed Power Girl and the American superhero community to square off against him. Black Adam was a god with nothing left to lose, and each punch he threw was intended to kill. His savagery was winning the day until Martian Manhunter reappeared and flooded his brain with his own loss, the death of the entire Martian species. Black Adam was distracted long enough for Captain Marvel to hurl a Shazam bolt at him. Theo Adam was powerless, and left with amnesia. He staggered away unnoticed from the end of WWIII.

(JSA #83-87) - <one year later> Power Girl and the JSA had their first get-together in many months. Gentleman Ghost appeared to the JSA and told them that they would all soon die by his hand. After hospitalizing Green Lantern the Ghost returned to the JSA hq, but was beaten off by Power Girl, who found she could physically affect him. The Ghost’s next target was Stargirl, but Power Girl saved her, once again driving the Ghost away. J.J. Thunder visited the spirit world and learned that the JSA hd to seek the Ghost in London. Power Girl and the JSA confronted the Ghost in the royals castle. The Gentleman Ghost was trying to fulfill an old gypsy prophecy that said he could return to life if he slew his enemies in the royal castle. The Ghost summoned an army of spirits to kill the JSA and their fight led to a chapel in Windsor, where an army of ghost knights arose and battled Ghost’s army for daring to defile the temple. Wildcat destroyed the Ghost, who was only vulnerable to those of royal blood, and the JSA returned home.

(Green Lantern IV #24) - The Sinestro Corps invaded Earth, intending to conquer the planet, making it a symbol of the Sinestro Corp’s power and their ability to control any planet. Power Girl and the Justice Society were among the heroes who helped stave off the invasion.

(Tales of the Sinestro Corps: Superman-Prime #1) - An army of Earth’s heroes, including Power Girl and the Justice Society appeared to take Superboy down during the Sinestro Corps invasion of Earth. The heroes focused on wrecking his armor, because after a year on Oa, and away from a yellow sun his Kryptonian body still wasn’t at full strength, and his armor collected sunlight. Superboy bragged that once the sun rose on Earth he’d be at full power. Superboy was battered by Wonder Girl and Wonder Woman, who blamed him for Superboy’s death, as well as Supergirl and Power Girl, who blamed him for the death of the Superman of Earth-2. As the fight went against him, Superboy broke down in tears. He tried to wipe them away, saying that it was impossible for boys to cry, and then whining that no one ever thanked him for sacrificing his Earth to save the multiverse. The battle lasted until dawn, and he flew into the sunrise. As he achieved full power he declared himself the one, true Superman. The Guardians arrived with Sodam Yat, the new Ion, and pitted him against Superboy-Prime.

(Green Lantern IV #25) - The Sinestro Corps War raged on Earth, and while Power Girl and an army of superheroes battled the Corps the Anti-Monitor prepared to unleash an anti-matter wave to destroy Earth. With Earth’s destruction, the entire 52 would fall, and he would once again rule all that was. The GLC ruptured the heart of Anti-Monitor’s Warworld, the Sinestro Corps central power battery, and created a shield around Warworld and the Monitor. The ensuing blast nearly destroyed the Anti-Monitor, and he was finished off by Superman-Prime, who betrayed him for having destroyed his home, Earth-Prime. GL Hal Jordan defeated Sinestro in personal combat, and the Sinestro Corps, lacking any leadership, fled Earth. The heroes rejoiced and began rebuilding the damage the Sinestro Corps did.
