His command of "nucleo-sonics" allowed him to use sound waves to fly.History: (Green Lantern vol. 2 #14)-Bito Wladon was a clockmaker's apprentice in Modora, a tiny Balkan country of about 400 people. Bito was ashamed that his country was ignored by other nations, and decided that if it possessed a devastating weapon it would begin to be recognized. To these ends he developed plans for a Nucleo-Sonic Bomb, but needed certain technical materials available only in America. Bito had been studying "nucleo-sonics," the conversion of sound waves into energy, and used his knowledge to create weapons that would allow him to travel to America and steal the needed parts. Bito also tailored what he considered to be a regal costume for himself; deeming himself the international spokesperson for Modora. He began a crime spree in America, and was dubbed Sonar by the press. Green Lantern II confronted him, but Sonar bested him in battle. Green Lantern trailed him to Modora and bested him. The Modoran authorities weren't impressed by Sonars' sense of nationalism and threw him in jail.
Sonar was pleased that his antics had helped bring some long overdue attention to Mordora. After being paroled he immediately declared war on a neighboring country. Once more Green Lantern thwarted him, and this time he was expatriated by Modora, which was beginning to consider him an embarrassment. Sonar has battled Green Lantern many times over the years in the continued belief that defeating the hero will bring honor to Modora.
(Justice League America #43, 44) - Sonar was hanging around the Dark Side, a bar catering exclusively to super-villains. He met a reporter named Wally Tortolini, who he briefly lost his sonic gun to in a card game.
(Green Lantern III #81) - Sonar and a few of Green Lantern's other old enemies attended a memorial service for Hal, showing respect for their old foe.
(Green Lantern IV #4) - Green Lantern visited Belle Reve for an interview with hector Hammond, and Sonar stopped the hero, yelling at him from his cell. He told Lantern that Hammond had told him all about the time Lantern spent as the murderous Parallax, and that Lantern should be in jail, not him. Sonar railed that he had diplomatic immunity, and showed a composition he wrote for Lantern entitled “You’re Nothing But A Damned Hypocrite,” before Lantern punched him out.
(Green Lantern IV #16) - Amon Sur broke into Hangar 44 to steal the ship his father Abin Sur had crash landed-on Earth in. Sonar and a number of other prisoners watched on as Amon gunned down the air force guards.
