Hunter made them a fighting force equal to any, and they performed special missions until the surrender of Japan in 1945. At wars end they formed a commando patrol on call to take care of trouble anywhere in the world.
As an adult Brooklyn became a police officer and earned the nickname "Terrible" Turpin.
(New Gods I #5) - An
Intergang hideout was busted by Dave Lincoln and Orion, and Turpin picked up the
pieces, interested by the Apokoliptan tech found in Intergang's hq. He visited
Detective Nolan in the hospital and got a clearer picture of the battle the New
Gods of New Genesis and Apokolips were waging on Earth. He thought it was like
the old days when he busted up gangs and syndicates, except the players were
weirder.
(New Gods I #8) - The
Metropolis police commissioner confirmed Turpin’s hunches of a phantom war
between superpowered entities when Kalibak went on a rampage and demanded that
his rival Orion confront him. The commissioner wanted Turpin to stay out of it,
saying the men he’d trained in the past would contain the problem. Turpin knew
the commissioner wanted to see him retire in one piece, but he refused to back
down, and led his men into the field. Kalibak scattered his men, and Turpin
heedlessly confronted Kalibak one-on-one. Kalibak battered him brutally, but he
refused to give up. His life was saved by Orion and Lightray, but he proclaimed
that all three New Gods were under arrest, and that he didn’t want to see
Metropolis torn apart by their senseless battles. While Orion and Kalibak
engaged in battle Turpin hooked up every power generator into the city into one
device, and used it to shock Kalibak into unconsciousness. He had his men take
Kalibak into custody, and then passed out.
(Action
Comics #650) - Turpin and the SCU guarded Sazu in her holding sell and had to
restrain her when her lawyer Ron Hamel mentioned Superman and she went berserk.
(Action Comics #709) - Maggie Sawyer gave Turpin some time off. He hoped to go fishing but got caught in traffic in the Queensland Tunnel when Guy Gardner went on a rampage. He stopped a carjacking, grabbed a motorcycle and rammed Guy, distracting him long enough for Superman to defeat him.
(Action
Comics #710, Superman: The Man of Steel #45, Adventures of Superman #524) - Lois
Lane sent a radio message to Terrible Turpin asking for his help because the
Pipeline was trying to kill her. He arrived in a battlesuit to take her into
protective custody, but a Pipeline member had infiltrated the S.C.U. and planted
a bomb at their meeting place, causing a massive explosion, and apparently
killing Lois. Robotic duplicates of Conduit tried to kill Turpin, Maggie and
members of S.C.U. that responded to the explosion, but Superman fought them off.
Turpin gave a downhearted interview to a Metropolis TV station, saying he would
remember how Lois did the S.C.U. proud when she served with them.
(Superman:
The Man of Tomorrow #4) - Turpin was pleased when Shazam took DMN addicts off
the hands of the SCU by magically purging the drug that caused their demonic
possession. Turpin observed Bibbo and Shazam arguing over who was stronger,
Captain Marvel or Superman, so he proposed the two heroes put on an athletic
competition broadcast from GBS with all proceeds going to the police athletic
fund.
(Action
Comics #722) - Acting on an anonymous tip Turpin and the SCU executed a search
warrant on LexCorp Tower. They discovered that the person who had three Team
Luthor members killed and remotely controlled their suits to cause chaos at the
Mars Mission Testimonial did their dirty work from LexCorps.
(Adventures of Superman #624) - B-Tech caused a time storm in Metropolis, threatening to wipe it from the continuum, and the Masters of Disaster used the chaos as an opportunity to escape from prison. They steamrolled over Turpin and the Metropolis S.C.U., but were stopped by Majestic, a hero from the Wildstorm Universe.
