History: (Batman I #3) -Carlson was inflicted with myxedema after a college hazing gone wrong by frat brother John Tyler. The newly hideous Carlson’s friends abandoned him, and his fiancee broke off their engagement, and married Tyler. Carlson proclaimed himself the Ugliest Man in the World, and developed a pathological hatred towards all things beautiful. Fifteen years later he amassed a gang known as the Ugly Horde, who shared his hatred of beauty, and were dedicated to destroying fine works of art. Wearing a disguise, the Ugliest Man posed as socialite Larry Larrimore to inject the wealthy with a serum that gave the mxyedema just like him. Batman and the Ugly Horde clashed, but the Ugly Horde eventually captured him. The Ugliest Man planned to inject Batman, as well as the Tylers, who he’d kidnapped, with his ugly serum. Detective McGonigle, who was intent on arresting Batman, found the Ugliest Man’s lair, and shot him dead. The heroes apprehended the Ugly Horde, and Dr. Ekhart developed a serum to counteract the ugly serum.

Due to the Crisis on Infinite Earths, the Ugly Horde’s existence was erased from DC continuity.
