UNTOUCHABLES

Membership: Bonnie Parker, Clyde Barrow, John Dillinger

Aliases: Intangibles

Base of Operations: Mobile

First Appearance: DC Comics Presents #58 (June, 1983)

History: Performing an experiment using Superman's vision powers three unnamed criminals made themselves intangible. As the Intangibles they battled Superman, Robin and the Elongated Man.

(Hawk and Dove III #3, 4) - The Intangibles changed their name to the Untouchables, and adopted the dress and personas of old-time gangsters John Dillinger, Clyde Barrow, and Bonnie Parker. They pulled off a number of daytime bank robberies, relishing the thrill equally with the financial reward. At one robbery they encountered Hawk and Dove, and were happy to have a challenge. They shot their way out of the bank and escaped in their vintage car driven by a robotic getaway man. Back at their speakeasy hideout they discussed moving out west and changing their motif again to the outlaw-themed Hole-In-The-Wall Gang when Hawk and Dove arrived. Caught without their intangible equipment they were defeated and sent to jail.

(Showcase '93 #4, 5) - Clyde Barrows belt malfunctioned, leaving him permanently intangible and in danger of dying, so the Untouchables sought to cure him. They went to Markovia to acquire scientific equipment, and tried to distract the prince of Markovia Geo-Force by pretending to haunt his castle. He caught them, and they pleaded their case. Geo-Force promised to render his assistance if they agreed to surrender to his authorities, because he wasn't about to hand over scientific equipment to criminals. They balked, and turned him intangible so he could see what their friend was going through. Geo-Force almost suffocated because he couldn't breathe air before using a plus-gravity field to make himself more solid. Bonnie panicked, fearing the thought of her love dying, and put a gun to Denise's head. Geo-Force still refused to deal with terrorists, and negotiations got tense before Denise reminded them that if they didn't start working together Clyde as a dead man. Geo-Force made a royal pledge to cure Clyde, and he would allow them to go free afterwards. They went to Dr. Kneidel's lab, where she hooked up a generator to Geo-Force so he could extend his plus-gravity field to Clyde Barrow. John Dillinger doubted the royal word and started destroying equipment, making Geo-Force's generator overload so they'd have a chance to flee. Geo-Force released the resulting explosion in the atmosphere, and retuned to earth to apprehend the Untouchables, who realized they screwed up in not trusting his word. Dillinger was bitter, but Bonnie was just happy that Clyde was okay.
