History: The Vanguard was a superteam of aliens that traveled the universe aiding worlds in need. When Brainiac injured Superman the Vanguard placed Superman in Black Nebula's care, then fought a Superman robot Brainiac had unleashed on Earth. Brainiac killed Black Nebula and abducted Superman, so the Vanguard teamed with the new Teen Titans to defeat Brainiac, thus avenging their teammate and freeing the Man of Steel. The Vanguard then returned to the stars.
