History: (World's Best Comics #1) - Mr. Wright was a Gotham City book publisher as well as a fifth columnist. He started a secret publishing house to print propoganda, and created the garish identity of the Witch to conceal his identity. Erik Dorne, one of his novelists, discovered his secret life, and wrote a manuscript exposing him. Dorne chose to drop hints to others about his find, and Wright soon found him out. He snuck into Dorne's house as the Witch and savagely beat him to death with his staff. Dorne's butler responded, and although the Witch brutalized him he survived to tip off the police. Police commissioner Gordon and his friend Bruce Wayne investigated, and Wright showed up at the crime scene to make a big show of how surprised he was, and how he was in the area because Dorne had promised to deliver a new manuscript that night. There were a number oif suspects, including Dorne's aunt who looked like a witch and was bitter that Dorne never shared his publishing money, and his estranged wife Jane Ware, who was playing a witch in a theatre production, and was hoping her husband would die so she could marry her lover. Bruce was secretly the mysteryman Batman, and he quickly deduced that Wright was the killer, because Dorne was killed because of the manuscript, and Wright was the only one who could possibly know its' contents. He placed an anonymous tip to Wright, claiming that Dorne had a copy of his manuscript hidden on his premises. Wright changed into the Witch and investigated. He fled when confronted by Batman and his sidekick Robin, but they pursued him to his secret publishing house, and quickly dispatched him, turning him over to the police.

Due to the Crisis on Infinite Earths, the Witch's existence was erased from DC continuity
