Powers: The Witch was a cunning, scheming criminal. She was an expert actress, and this allowed her to impersonate different classes of people.History: (World's Best Comics #1) - The Witch and mysteryman the King matched wits on a number of occasions. The King was at a men's club discussing business with his friend Jim Nelson, who revealed that after the banks closed he had to keep his $100,000 capital in a safe in his house. He was throwing a party, but worried someone would try to take his money, so he hired private detective Herb Harper. King noticed his nemesis the Witch was posing as a waitress at the club, and knew a private detective would be no match for her, so he formulated a plan to thwart her. The next day he boarded the train where Harper and the Witch, disguised as maid Marie Laverne, were headed to Nelson's L.I. estate. King knocked out Harper, gently removed him from the train, and disguised himself as the detective. He started a conversation with the Witch, bragging about how he was going to protect Nelson's money. The Witch thought he'd be extremely easy to outsmart, so she started schmoozing him once they reached Nelson's. With a little nudging she got him to show her Nelson's safe, and how to open it. She made them cocktails, but King deftly switched them, knowing his most likely had a Mickey Finn. His assumption was correct, and when the Witch passed out he replaced Nelson's money with stage money before pretending to be knocked out himself. The Witch awoke, and seeing "Harper" passed out she quickly took the money and parted company. She counted her money only to realize it was fake, and she found the King's calling card. She cursed her overconfidence, and was furious with her enemy and vowed to outsmart or kill him someday.
