History: (Plastic Man #14) – An unnamed criminal was sent to jail, and started obsessing on how one word, “guilty,” ruined his life. He got the nickname Words and used his words to gain an early release. He got his old gang together to rob a museum exhibit of dictionaries. He made an announcement over the loudspeaker telling the patrons it was closing time, and with no one around he was able to snatch a original Samuel Johnson dictionary. Plastic Man and Woozy Winks stumbled upon his scheme, but Words escaped. They met Words again at a screening of “Dark Adventure,” Central Studios first talkie, and Words got away with the original film reel. Words tried to unlock the vault of the late socialite Mr. Grenville, which was voice activated. He got frustrated because the phrase ”Veni, Vidi, Vici” failed to unlock it, giving Plas time to capture Words and explain that the vault only responded to Grenville’s voice or a recording thereof.

In the pre-Crisis DC Universe Words lived on Earth-2. Words, like most characters from the golden age Plastic Man stories, may or may not be a part of post-Crisis DC continuity.

Words was originally a Quality Comics character, which DC obtained the rights to in 1956.
