History: (Superboy I #172 (fb) ) - Krptonian anthropologist An-Kal raised a Kryptonian gorilla that he named Yango To test his "Genetic Alterance" theory he used cybernetic programming to give Yango super intelligence. When Krypton exploded An-Kal sent Yango to Earth aboard a rocketship. Yango landed in Kenya and was taken in by Earth gorillas. Under Earth's yellow sun he gained super-powers and became a champion of the gorillas, protecting them from poachers.

(Superboy I #172 ) - <15 years later> Superboy investigate the disappearance of poachers in Kenya, and came into conflict with Yango, but their powers were too evenly matched to have a victor. Superboy learned of Yango's common Kryptonian origin by breaking the time barrier and traveling to the past. The poachers escaped Yango's custody during his battle with Superboy, but Superboy apprehended them and turned them over to Yango, realizing they were both champions, Superboy of humanity, and Yango of apes. Yango kept the poachers in a cage, and Superboy promised to spread Yango's message throughout the civilizedworld.

Due to the Crisis on Infinite Earths, Yango's existence was erased from DC continuity.

Yango probably existed in the Pocket Universe inhabited by the post-Crisis Superboy.
