The cost of surgery varies from place to place and hospital to hospital.
e.g. for a Gall Bladder surgery,In a government hospital it is free. This should be checked before going for surgery as this may not be true all the time due to various limitations faced by government institutions and often the patient is asked to buy disposable instruments, consumables and some of the medicines. This could mean an expense varying from Rs 5000 if you are lucky to Rs 10000 if you are unlucky.
In a small nursing home with basic facilities and minimal overhead expenses, the cost could be around Rs 15,000 for the treatment plus another Rs 5000 for medicines. Some times the nursing home offers package deals of about Rs 20,000 on a total door to door cost. Medically fit patients with uncomplicated early disease are ones who benefit most from these centres.
In a larger nursing home (often called hospitals), that have more staff and facilities, the cost goes upto 40,000 rupees.
Large private hospitals have a wide range of cost choice for the patients depending upon their choice of rooms (general ward, shared rooms and private rooms). Here the cost could range from Rs 70,000 to 130,000. Most patients who have associated medical problems or long standing disease prefer to go to these centres as they have more monitoring facilities, larger surgical and anesthesia teams, medical super specialists and intensive care facilities in case their need arises.

LAPAROSCOPIC HERNIA TREATMENT
The above package plus Rs 6000 for the standard mesh in Inguinal hernias. You may need a dual mesh in cases of Incisional hernias which may cost between 30,000 and 60,000 depending on brand and size.. Also another Rs 25,000 in patients with larger hernias for the imported disposable fixing device of the mesh that are required for a laparoscopic hernia operation. ( i.e a total extra of between Rs 6000 to 60,000 depending on the individual patient and size of hernia).
I know this is confusing so its best that you clarify this with the surgeon before the surgery,
ENDOSCOPIC THORACIC SYMPATHECTOMY
Rs 175,000 in General Ward for the full treatment on both sides inclusive of one day stay and medicines. This is the cost in most cases. It is not a package hence the final bill could be 5-10% more in some cases. Discounted sessions are available from time to time.
PILES / HEMORRHOIDS TREATMENT
Rs 1300 for registration, consultation and examination by proctoscope. Rs 10,000 for injection sclerotherapy or banding. Rs 75,000 appx for hemorrhoidectomy in General Ward.(For Stapled Hemorrhoidectomy an extra Rs 20,000 for the stapler i.e. a total of Rs 95,000 appx).
LAPAROSCOPIC OBESITY TREATMENT (Bariatric Surgery)
Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy and Laparoscopic Banding is about Rs 275,000. This includes surgery, 48 hours hospital stay, cost of staples/ band ( about Rs 130.000), medicines etc. The cost of Laparoscopic Bypass ( Roux en Y or Mini gastric bypass ) can be about Rs 325,000 based on requirement of staplers during surgery.
ROBOTIC SURGERY
For most situations, this costs an extra Rs 50,000 over the cost of laparoscopic surgery. Common procedures done robotically are thymectomy ( Appx 250,000 ), robotic bariatric surgery, robotic gastrointestinal surgery for cancer etc.
