Chessie cleaned the mess she'd made
then served her lizard's feet
with her Pasta a la Chessie.
for her friend Durbin to eat.

Durbin looked down at his plate
and held his spoon just right.
He stared down for a long, long time
but couldn't take a bite.


"What's wrong? Why aren't you eating?"
Chessie asked with her mouth full.
"The pasta's made from glow worms
and the meatball's made from wool.

"It really is delicious.
Go ahead and take bite!"

Durbin closed his eyes
and then he prayed with all his might.

He sunk his spoon into the food
then brought it toward his lips.
His hand was shaking nervously
as he managed a few sips.

"Well, how do you like it?", Chessie asked.
"I've worked on it for weeks!"

"It's interesting", said Durbin,
as the tears streamed down his cheeks.
