Home video to document
Matchbox 20's tour Down Under

More than two years have elapsed since Matchbox 20 released their debut, Yourself or Someone Like You, but in areas of the world where the single "3 A.M." is actually "5 P.M. the Next Day" (kidding), it'll soon be treated like it's brand spanking new. Beginning today, the alterna-pop quintet will begin its tour of Australia, which will be followed by a much-needed respite.

The sojourn down under will reap more than Benjamins for M20, it'll also spawn a home video that will document the band Real World-style (the show, not the song), and be released early next year. After M20 finish up their lengthy touring schedule, frontman Rob Thomas will do the solo thing and record some new songs with guitarist Mick Jones, the Foreigner version -- not the Clash, B.A.D. one -- and Paula Cole guitarist Kevin Barry. In March, the band will reconvene, and board a houseboat (no joke) where they'll begin rehearsing for their next album.

After the houseboat experiment, the band will resume recording in Atlanta with Yourself producer Matt Serlitic. "If you got it right the first time," says Thomas, "you don't wanna f--- with it." Thus far, Thomas says he's written eighteen songs for next album. Combined with contributions from guitarist Kyle Cook, guitarist Adam Gaynor and drummer Paul Doucette, the group may have enough songs for a Matchbox box set. Egad.
