Biography
Matthew Langford Perry was born on August 19th 1969 in Williamstown, Massachusetts. He is the son of actor John Bennett Perry and Suzanne Perry, then a model. Before he was a year old, his parents divorced and Matthew moved to Ottawa with his mother. She began working in several different capa - cities and moved around a lot with Matthew, but ultimately in 1978 they settled in Ottawa when Matthews mother became a press aide to Pierre Trudeau. Matthew went to school at Ottawas exclusive Ashbury College and spent most of the time goofing around. At the age of 4 Matthew started playing tennis and by the time he was 13, he was ranked as the No.2 player in Ottawa, 17th internationally and he and his doubles partner were ranked 3rd nationally in Canada. When he was 15, Matthew moved to LA to live with his father aiming to become a professional tennis player as there was more opportunity in LA. Two years later, Matthews mother moved to LA too as she missed Matthew terribly. After losing a big tennis match in front of his whole family, Matthew decided to pursue an acting career instead. Matthew was discovered while skipping classes in tenth grade. He was sitting in a restaurant with three girls, trying to be funny in an effort to impress them when he got a note on a napkin. It was from William Richert and he wanted Matthew to be in his next movie. Two months later Matthew was on the set of the film A Night In The Life Of Jimmy Reardon, appearing opposite River Phoenix. After graduating high school, Matthew intended to enrol at the University of Southern California, but the offer of a leading role in a television series called Boys Will Be Boys made him abandon that and pursue his chosen career.
Matthews other TV credits include regular roles on Home Free, Sydney and Growing Pains. He has also guest - starred on series such as Whos The Boss?, The Tracy Ullman show, Empty Nest, The John Laroquette Show, Beverly Hills 90210 and 240 Robert (in which his father starred). His TV movies include Deadly Relations, Call Me Anna and Dance Till Dawn. Matthews other feature films include Shes Out Of Control, Parallel Lives and more recently Fools Rush In, Almost Heroeswith the late Chris Farley, 'Three To Tango' and 'The Whole Nine Yards'. As well as performing, Matthew enjoys writing. In 1993 he and his writing partner, Andrew Hill Newman, wrote their own sitcom called Maxwells House which they sold to Universal TV. They wrote a feature for Warner Bros. entitled Imagining Emily. Matthew's dad, John, got remarried to Debbie,and they have a daughter named Marie. His mum, Suzanne, got remarried to Keith Morrison,a newscaster for NBC. They have four children together: Caitlin, Emily, Will and Madeline. Matthew took Caitlin to the premiere of The Whole Nine Yards in 2000. Matthews other interests include playing ice hockey and softball.
