New Your Trip - November 2000

In November we (Galina and I) went to New York. We stayed at the Sheraton Hotel which is on 5th, near Times Square. This is a Photo album of that (short) (shopping) trip.

New York

New York (as seen from the World Trade Centre). A busy crowded place which is great to visit (but I would imagine hell to live there). We actually visited the World Trade Centre on the second day. We made the mistake of thinking the bus was too slow (Gray Line Tourist service) and walking. It was quite a long way from the Empire State (where we got off) to the World Trade. On the plus side we saw some of Little Italy and China Town, along with Greenwich Village. Up in the skyscraper area you think all of NY is the same but Greewich has "normal" size buildings and is very much quieter and relaxed.

Hotel View

We had fun at the Hotel. The first room they gave us wasa not quite what we wanted. The bed was a little small and the TV was in the wrong place. Okay we were on holiday but it is nice to lie there in the morning watching TV. We changed rooms and then couldn't find the lift to the new rooms. It was in its own separate area of the lobby. However the room was larger, higher up (and therefore quieter) and generally very good. Never did get the hang of the channels on TV but did get the ITV news in the morning.

Bridges of New York

We spent the first couple of days doing the site seeing. With only 4 days (actually 3 full days and leaving on the fourth) it was a bit of a hurry. Fortunately the Hotel let us leave our things in the room on the last day (with no extra charge) so we were able to see a lot. These are some of the bridges (again from the World Trade Centre) that connect Manhatten to the rest of the State. We used the Gray Line for doing the "Tourist" bit, most of the others on the bus were either Americans or none English speakers. It was good that you could get on an off the bus over two days without charge, so you could see a lot of the city.
