Young Christina Wakefield meets Philip Caxton in London and finds him more ruffian than gentleman, and is happy to return home to her country estate with her brother John. However, John is soon sent to Cairo by Her Majesty's Army, so Christina joins him, thus beginning an adventure that would change her life. Abducted her first night in Cairo, Christina finds herself bundled up and borne away across the desert sands. She arrives in a sheltered mountain village, where she finally meets her Arab abductor - Philip Caxton. Outraged and afraid, Christina is filled with hatred for this treacherous man, but as his touch makes her body betray her, and his kindness belies his threats, she finds herself growing to love him. Before she can admit her feelings, she is given a dismissive letter from Philip, and returned to Cairo. Reunited with her brother, Christina pours out her story, only referring to Philip by his tribe's name for him, Abu, and finds a glimmer of hope in her despair - she will give birth to Philip's son. Later, her son born, and home in England, Christina is visited by Philip, but many misunderstandings must be smoothed out and troubles passed before hero and heroine finally admit their love and are reunited.
